Hi all,

Very very strange problem going on, I've been speaking with @Bailey on support and we can't draw any conclusion on this, but I was wondering if anyone might have ANY ideas on what I could do!

I've built a new PC (Spec at the bottom of the post)

Installed Windows 10 as you do, everything went fine, went to installed Windows Creative Update, locked up on downloading, restarted, locked up again on downloading, went to download Nvidia Drivers, locks up during installation, same issue with any software installation at all.

I ran memtest86+ to ensure RAM was fine, left it on for a weekend, 50 passes, no errors, RAM is clear as far as we are aware.

I decided to grab a mechanical hard drive I had lying around, Windows installed, Creative Update went fine, Nvidia drivers installed and working, ran Prim95 for 2 days solid, no issues, no crashes, no problems.

Ok, faulty SSD? Grabbed another SSD and ran into the same problems with this one (Sandisk) as the original (Hynix).

To say I'm a bit confused right now is a massive understatement! Anyone got any ideas?

Anyone got any thoughts on this? Driving me absolutely nuts!!

Yup. It could be you've run into the rare dodgy RAM that passes Memtest but causes trouble like this. I remember struggling for two weeks with a new build that kept crashing a few years ago. RAM passed Memtest, so I focused on just about everything else till I finally swapped RAM and hey presto lol. Thankfully Bailey was understanding and RAM was returned for new, no fuss. So advise you to test with different RAM for sure. Otherwise motherboard or a cable might be the culprit I suppose.

Having said that, when you are talking about the mechanical drive and you say "Windows installed", did you mean it was already installed, or that you installed it fresh with the same RAM etc?

I've got no idea really. The symptoms you describe initially point to an issue with the RAM, although why going from an SSD to a HDD would make any difference I have no idea.

You say you've tested it using memtest and it came back as fine. I'd suggest running with one stick at a time anyway as I've had faulty RAM pass memtest before.

Have you installed all chipset drivers? Have you reset the BIOS back to defaults? Maybe you need to update the BIOS - there have been five updates since the boards release.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I did test with some other RAM, 15 passes on MEMTEST 86+

i think and hope I might have cracked it by disabling the ASATA ports in the bios, no idea why that would make a difference, but I did another full rebuild last night, things SEEM to be better, but will have to stress test it tonight.

@JasonM Yes, AHCI is set as the other option was RAID which I didn't think I would want to be using?

@Danny75 Sorry, with the mechanical hard drive I installed windows, creative update, and then ran prime 95 for 24 hours, not a fault or lockup in sight.

GreenMint, you would want AHCI setting if not using raid.

BTW I don't think this is RAM related, I think it's related to SATA controller side.

Yep, I've set it to AHCI now, as said last night was a lot smoother after the rebuild, everything installed fine, updates on, 3d mark ran with no issues, just hoping I've broken the back of it!

Had it on for about 9 hours last night, 3dmark all fine, stability fine..left it on for a bit, came back, green & purple screen, all was fine but with a green/purple "high contrastish" look to it..

Whatever next?

Defo a weird one!
Don't suppose you can share a pic of the purple/green like effect?
Random thought, have you tried plugging the SSD into another SATA port on the motherboard? Also, as mentioned above, with another SATA cable?

I've read up on it a bit and supposedly a graphics driver issue, but I've had it on for 36 hours since, random 3d marks at intervals with and without restarts, even let my 10 month old daughter have a look to see if she can diagnose the issue, but right now it "seems" to be working fine....stay tuned for updates & fails!
