Hi there

Sapphire have given us a great deal, due to 290 Tri-X demand being so high and supply so poor, they said to me, look we can get you many many units if we don't pre-overclock them to save us time, if this is OK we can get you lots and much quicker!

Of course I agreed to this deal and the stock is leaving Hong Kong today, we expect the delivery Friday or Monday, so this price is PRE-ORDER ONLY.

You all know my feelings on the Tri-X cooler, it is one of the best, can work in more or less silence whilst still keeping the card very cool and it can also function as a very powerful cooler too making it ideal in three way crossfire or for mining setups.

Such a great card, perfect for gamers and miners, I have only 500pc and were expecting them to fly out, the price when stock lands will increase by approx £20-£30 so be warned:-

A great card at a great price. :)

Is the difference in terms of performance small or big compared to the 290x version. Also would it be very simple to overclock it to what sapphire should have done.

Yes be quite easy yes. :)

No real reason why you simply can't get the Tri-X OC BIOS from techpowerup and simply flash the card to be a full OC version. ;)

Easy as urinating when you need the toilet. Overclocking the core 50mhz is not exactly hard. I'd snap two of these up Bakes, forget about the 290X you were considering.

Gibbo didn't you do a review comparing the 290 vs 290x and it was a tiny performance difference. How tiny were you talking about 1-2 fps in games?

Great deal, but wondering why can't Sapphire match Asus, MSI and Gigabyte and offer 3 year warranty too. I'm sure their cards are not any worse.

Mmm i was all set on going from my 7970 to a 780 now you do this!

How much of a step up is this to my 7970? I game at 1080p 144mhz?

5-10% at most!

And a 290 can easily achieve a 10% overclock to match/beat a stock 290X. :)

You're in for a nice boost. These results were taken with a reference 290 that was throttling, so you can expect more fps with a Sapphire Tri X 290 than displayed here.

Cheers LtMatt, tbh the only reason i was looking at 780's is all the issues i have seen with the 290 on these pages i just want problem free gaming how reliable are these do you know?

How long is a piece of string? These use Hynix memory so id say your chances of a black screen problem are minimal. The problem here is you only get people posting issues, most of the people with working gpu's don't post to say my gpu works fine.

Fair enough, im fairly new here so i never saw how the 7970 faired at launch. Mine was a vtx which i never had a fault with.

Yeah VTX are a solid budget brand. Using two reference VTX 290 Pro's myself at the moment with no issues.
