Creative Thinkers

I'm the owner of the KnowledgeBase for a public sector company. I'm responsible for managing all document uploads, pages, branding, formatting of the site.

Since the site was created back 3-4 years ago, it has always been referred to as the KnowledgeBase. Typically, a KnowledgeBase is used to describe an internal solution for Service Delivery departments to store guidance for issues, bugs and workarounds.

However, our KB is available to all our customers and I don't see 'KnowledgeBase' as a suitable description. It stores guides, forms, policies and will eventually incorporate a self-service solution.

So, my question is, what else could be used to describe this platform?

Obviously the answer to this is no but i'll ask anyway :p You surely don't have corporate documents and customer directed documents stored on the same publically accessible server?

The name depends on what the company is, what kind of business it is in and what they want to project.

So what would happen if you change the names? Won't it confuse your customers for a while?
Won't this cost time and money?
It seems like you are trying to solve an non-existing problem and with the potential to create hassle for yourself in the process, at least in the short term.

Indeed...managers do come up with some great initiatives dont they :p

That is a good question.

The answer is Yes, but we've limited the views to documents using AD security groups and SharePoint groups. Currently, only the HR docs have been limited as the Finance Services provided are generic to all customers.

However, the sensitive and private HR docs which should only be available to us are stored on the Intranet.

It's given me some considerations! Thanks :)
