Credit rating score

They have changed it now, this was over a year ago maybe 2. It was completely different and they didn't have the * next to it. No i thought it was 30 days free and then it would end. I logged in for about 5 mins if that and then closed it never used it again. Next month i see it on my bank statement...

I have no clue how it works in the UK as I haven't been there in 6 years and never needed yo check credit history. While I lived in switerland for 5 years it was cool because there is no such thing as credit history, credit is given based purely as x*Salary - Rent -family living costs, where is a factor the bank determines, typically 1.5. You earn more money you can get ore credit.

However, I just moved to the us and when buying a car I would get my (non-existent) credit report free at each dealer. Just fill in some details, wait 10 minutes and the report comes back which I am allowed to read and keep.
Same when i got my cell-phone contract. If any company requests a credit report then they are legally obliged to provide that report to the consumer.

You can just go to a department store or supermarket and sign up for one of their credit cards and you will get a free credit report.

I don't know if you can do the same in the UK.

Why would you not want to be on the electoral roll, it's poor for your credit rating to not be on it.

Is that so?

Im not on it and my credit rating is fine. I couldnt even see anything on the credit score thing that mentioned the Electoral Roll, but I may have missed it...

I was just checking for other stuff at the time.

The answer is 'it depends'. Some lenders think it's important, others not.

What is generally accepted though is that being on the electoral role lowers your risk profile.

Won't the OP face issues moving his wife's mortgage into both their names when he has 2 CCJs on file? At best I'd have thought the rate would make him cry and at worst they'll say no. I mean it's a loan application after all.

i signed up to the credit expert site for 30days. useless tho. i had a score of 941/999 and can't get credit anywhere.

check your score for free, then if you have any defaults then forget about credit in the next 6 years.

Don't check your 'score' anywhere. A 'score' is meaningless. It exists only to generate additional money for the credit reference agencies. What matters is your credit FILE - a pile of information about you that lenders will use, however they see fit, to decide whether to offer you credit. Thats it - thats how it works.

The 'score' is an addon product aimed squarely at revenue generation.

The score is meaningless. As mentioned each lender has different criteria, and will also look at other variables not held in your report (e.g. salary etc).

The important thing is to ensure it's accurate. For anyone applying for a mortgage, they should definately check their report to ensure there are no errors.

I know when I applied for a credit at HSBC they blamed experian for not giving me credit, when i pressed them about it. They said that they run a check with them and they don't even get to see anything, it comes back with a rejected or approved from experian. The banks have literally outsourced the credit worthy check to a third party completely. The banks might have a set criteria that is set up with them. But at the end of the day if experian want credit to be less available in the country, they can just change the criteria or said another way, flip a switch.

Not so long ago the bank employee would make the decision based on your salary and your ability to repay it. I have applied for credit and the person on the phone has said, i think you will get it with your salary and you payment history (never missed a payment) and when it was rejected he was surprised.

it comes back with a rejected or approved from experian

Again, this is rubbish. The credit references agencies do not offer opinion, they pass data - that's all. The lender makes the decision on lending based on information gained from the agencies.

If that's what HSBC told you, then they were talking pure BS.

You're confusing the Census with the Register of Electors.

im not?
i kept getting someone come round telling me to fill in my census, so eventually i did.
i also had a electoral role thing from my local council offices who also sent someone around and i said i cant really be bothered with all the voting crap, i asked if that was okay and she said yeah sure i'll mark you as refused and ive not heard anything about it since.

I was tricked and at no time was i made aware that i was signing up for a monthly rolling contract that required cancelling. When it happened i looked in to it and there was 1000s of people who were also tricked, there was even a post on moneysavingexpert warning people about the fraud.

I have never registered to vote in my life. That is why i was surprised to see it on the credit report. So they advised phone the council. So i called the council and they confirmed that i am not registered so i called them back up and they said they would look in to it. Then they call me back like two weeks later telling me that they are not going to remove it. This is when i accused them of falsifying document and advised them that it is a crime and that they are engaged in fraudulent activity.

You were not tricked, you were simply too stupid to read the small print.....
