Cricket World Cup thread

game over - im off to find another sport in which i can actually be confident enough to say i support england.

Head up m8, maybe it's time Freddie got his ass into gear.

I still think we will get around the 265 mark. ;)

Dear oh dear KP out:eek:, was looking forward to seeing some beef out there with him and SA's.

Better hope Nixon and Bopara can make big innings along with Strauss.

Game is far from over, can still make a decent total if no more wickets are taken.

Strauss and Collingwood need to stay for a good partnership here or its all over.

It was written in the cards that something would happen with Pietersen and Smith, unfortunately it was a Pietersen century.

One match winner gone, Collingwood can normally save the day though

i've just recently started playing cricket and at the moment its a moral victory over the bowler if I even make contact with the ball. You think Duncan Fletcher might take me on? My edges for 4's and 6's would surely outscore the top 3 at the moment - absolutely shocking stuff and the obvious collapse is well on.

Egland are getting absolutely hammered out there:eek:. I think this game is well and truly over by the looks of it..shameful display by the English batters.

I wish i wasn't english!

Well saying that not jsut because of the cricket but we won't start ranting and raving about politics now....

Wheres the politics thread ;)

Shr3k

Im embarrassed, i really cant believe what im watching.

Something needs to change, this england team have been shocking.

I dont think any words can describe just how dismal this is, typical english capitulation.

Crap opening, crap scoring, crap Flintoff...

I know people will say he hasn't much experience but why on earth is Alistair Cook back in England playing in that MCC match the other day and getting 140 odd runs. I know its a different set up but the guy surely could do better than Vaughan up front. Also your chap Shah got a good few runs. Why are these guys not in this team? In my opinion the reason why Englands World Cup campaign failure started when Mal Loye was dropped from the squad.

Pathetic from England, inquest starts now:

Time for Vaughan to go as captain of the one day side. His captaining was good in the Ashes, no doubt about it, but in this world cup it has definitely been decidedly shaky at times. Things like bowling wide outside the off stump to the Bangladeshis when we had them 6 down springs to mind. That's all without his batting which has been pretty much clueless. Get him back playing for Yorkshire and then hopefully he'll be better set up for when the test matches start again.

The opening partnership really does need looking at. I reckon Bell is a good choice as an anchor to open, but he needs someone much more forceful to bat with him. Preferably, that would be Tres over the summer, should be prove his mental fitness, otherwise why not at least try Pietersen up there. Let's face it, the way the wickets have been falling, he's tended to have come in before 10 overs have been up anyway! Tres would be the ideal choice though, left handed and a natural opener. Probably wishful thinking, however, as it's by no means certain that he won't fall ill again.

Bowling-wise, we haven't actually looked too bad. Mahmood is showing promise and Anderson has been decent. Fred has been the best bowler but his batting has been shocking. Not too much work needed here though imo, Monty should keep improving and the only real problem for the bowlers has been a lack of runs to protect.

It's been a shocking world cup for England, hopefully some hard decisions will be taken so that we can actually take something from it. I really wish Vaughan could have come good in the tournament, but he just doesn't seem able to translate his obvious class as a test batsman into the one day game, which is puzzling to say the least.

^^ Agree with your points there. Although I think we are missing and have missed over the last year the bowling of Simon Jones. Vaughn is just too injury prone and woefully short of form.

As for Freddie, since he's come back from the ankle surgery, he hasn't been the same.

The selection process needs to be overhauled to include in-form players.

As a side note, do you think the central contract system for England players is more of a hindrance than help?

Just switched on hoping to see a nice total, wtf 142-8 that is shocking for a team like England, amount of money they get from ECB zand sponsers.
