For those that don't know Critical Role is one of the best online dungeons and dragon campaigns. Run by DM Matthew Mercer and a bunch of his celebrity friends (who are all voice actors) it's without a doubt the best game campaign out there imo.

Anyway one of the things that puts people off is the large amount needed to catch up (given they do a 3 hour episode each thursday and there is 115 episodes (more hours than The Simpsons!)

But no longer!

This Thursday on Twitch (VODs go up Mondays) Critical Role Season 2 begins, a whole new campaign with new characters set in the same world of Exandria created by Mercer. This is the perfect jumping on point if you've been curious what the big deal is.

And here is the silhouette teaser for their heroes, is that a Kobold?

I'm quite looking forward to this. Specifically I'm looking forward to seeing them at lower levels. The last year or so has been great fun, but, for me at least, D&D gets a little weird at very high level, like they have to be butting heads with a god before there is actually much risk to the party. :)

They said on last week's Fireside chat that the teaser silhouette wasn't actually anything to do with their new characters.
Always enjoyed Critical Role since the beginning, sad to say goodbye to Vox Machina but also looking forward to the new area of the world that Matt has created.

I've been watching the broadcasts on Friday/Saturday mostly after they air, normally what I do is when they do the mid-game break I'll pause the video and have a good hour break doing something else before going back and skipping their ads to the second half's start.

Really enjoying the character development, looking forward to hearing more of Caleb's past and finding out who Yasha and Fjord's deities are.
Quite like reading some of the speculation from the community about The Traveller, be interesting to see if Matt has done a copy from the Eberron campaign or is using the name for something more sinister.

Matt does have a wonderful way of creating an atmosphere and drawing the group into the game's world, I think every DM strives to one-day be as good as him.
Also really like that some of the others are starting to get into describing their actions... Liam's descriptions of how he casts his spells is getting really good, his character's accent is really starting to come along well too.

Listened to another couple of episodes, getting King Ezekiel in was cool but I felt the rest of the group went Uber obnoxious that session although trying to impress him and you could barely hear him half the time which was a tad annoying.

Is the group playing fast and loose with some rules? Travis's lock seems to cast and recast his curse which (unless I'm misunderstanding rules which is very possible) it is a single use per rest and cannot be shifted until higher level. They also don't enforce the action to make his weapon appear.

I like Marissa/Bo, Travis/Fjord, Liam/Caleb and Nok (forgot his name) but I find Molly just irritating and the class is either useless or he's specced it terribly and I really dislike Laura/Jester. Whilst it's got the amusing undertones the campaign comes across as "serious" and her having giant radiant lollipops and the irritating accent I find takes away a little from the enjoyment at times.

Love Matt's voices for the gnolls!
