hi guys

dont know what 2 do

could get 1x x1800 xt 512mb,or 2xX800 GTO 256mb.

what do u guys think?at the mo i am on agp x800 pro 256mb,but gonna be updating my rig soon :)
just dont know which road 2 take

In my experiance of using Multi-GPU systems i'd advise you buy the best single GPU card around.

Reason is in some games it doesn't harness the dual-gpu technology and I believe it still had a way to go yet ;)

I may be wrong but I thought you needed an x800 series crossfire edition card as the master. That would be the x850xt crossfire plus a crossfire motherboard. If your already updating the motherboard wouldn't be a problem but the total cost of the mb and crossfire card would be higher than the x1800xt. If you are going crossfire it might be better to get the 1800 or 1900 crossfire master.
I've not seen any comparisons between an x800 crossfire system and an x1800xt for performance, so any links would be useful, but the 1800 and 1900's are newer cards.

If your getting the x1800 XT, then your going to have buy both the slave, and mastercards now, as x1800's have ceased production, once the ones that are out there are gone, then thats it, so if your updating soon, then chances are they will probaby be all gone by then, so unless your going to do the full upgrade now, and buy both cards/mobo/cpu etc... then your going to be out of luck, id go for the x1900, will last ages as a single card, then you can Crossfire it at a later date. :)

Do not go Crossfire on the x800 range, it is worthless, can't go higher than 1600x1200, and is stuck at 60hz, so it is totally pointless as there is no benefit.

again thanks 4 the info
my big upgrade will be in about 2 months hopefully
so i hope prices for the x1900 come down a little bit by then,i have about £300 for a graph card :)

Yeah i would think in 2x months time the x1800's would be gone, the x1900's may come down a bit by then, the x1800's have dropped a fair bit, and they've only been out just over 2x months. :)

But is now ever the right time to buy computer parts?

Its just a fact we must accept that a new and better product is always just around the corner!

Yes, but if he's not upgarding for about 2x months, then the chances are that the x1800's will be gone as they have ceased production, once the ones out there now are gone, then thats it, x1900's will be around until the summer, when the R600/G80 arrive, and who knows they may even keep the x1900's going after then, thats a good 6-7 months away.

Hes guaranteed an x1900 in 2x months, but not an x1800. :)

he could always go striaght for the crossfire edition, and if he decides to crossfire later pick up a 2nd hand standard x1800xt.

they'll always be people upgrading on the members market who want to get rid of stuff cheap - i imagine

If you get a X1800XT / X1900XT you will see a big difference. :D
The rest of your rig (in sig) is still pretty good. :)
