Crucial C300 SSD SATA III

There are some comparison videos up already of the Crucial C300 VS other SSD and there is a big speed difference IMO.

Also there may not be an official date, when i said 22nd Feb, that was the date i was given from Micron themselves ;)

posted similar question elsewhere but might be more fitting to post here instead.

Excuse my ignorance but if i were to get this drive rated at well around 350MB/s... because of my SATA2 interface.. does this mean i'm limited to a max data transfer rate of 300MB/s?? Do i need a SATA3 mobo to benefit from the max read speed of around 350MB/s??

6 GB/s is where this drive excels, for me i am on sata 2 and i could not justify the cost to change as is!, The Verex LE due any time is one hell of a good performer on sata 2!

My Issues

Dear Guys

Here is my dilemma: I have been waiting to purchase an SSD for months now but haven't because, based on stuff written, I just haven't found the right '1'.

Mr Windows RC1 is expiring as of march and that leaves me with little time as I had hoped that a popular contender would be out by now.

NOW, as far as the previews go, I am waiting for two drives

1) The above mentioned Crucual C300 SATA III and

(btw it concerns me that there is no talk about it on the Crucial forums: http://www.forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/bd-p/ssd)

2) The Vertex 2 Pro based on the new SandForce controller a long with other companies.

... but which 1 do I go for and why ? I don't mind installing a PCI-E adapter to have SATAIII ports ...

Thanks

Asmar

Hi and welcome to the forum

Tbh either one would not disappoint you, they are both FAST and excellent compared to what is available now.

If i had to pick out of the two it is going to be C300 for me. Although the performance different between this and the Vertex LE is not going to be noticeable to us general users. Its like trying to choose between a Ferrari and Lamborghini based on speed, what different does an extra 20mph make??

New controllers mean new problems so it might be best to wait a Little while longer and see how they perform, as a common rule early adopters always face problems.

so the choice is yours really.

Some would suggest the C300, based on SATAIII bandwidth, to be faster ? http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=454&Itemid=60

Yes but whether you go for the Sandforce controller on the Vertex 2 Pro, or the JMicron on the C300 - it is a new controller BOTH ways ?

These drives are up for sale on Crucial's site now. When I added one to my basket there was no message about being out of stock, which there usually is if there's none available.

Any word yet Slackworth?

that is too expensive, i was hoping more the £300-320 mark

cant justify the price, regardless of the performance

ocuk work your magic;)

I see that - I was tempted to go for it but another site has the drive for around £60 less. That is a good save if one can wait a week no ?

apparently the 128GB model is slower than the 256GB, think 33% less random IOP and sequential write of 140mb anyone have confirmation of this?

on their site it says the 128gb is also 355mbs read speed but didnt mention the IOP or write speed.
il be interested to find out as ive pre-ordered the ocz vertex LE and im considering canceling the order for one of these c300 instead

How do you know this ?

I know very little have RVd the 128GB but if you look at crucial's older drives the M225 there was little between the two high-end ones, i don't know of any data but I do know that there wasnt many complaints on the Crucial SSD forums?

I'm still 99.9% sure Crucial do not have them available in the UK yet. I will find out tomorrow for sure.

As for pricing, let me see what we can do.:)
