 lol another broken ballistix thread!
i should have done more research before i bought these. im currently limping along on 1 gb for now till i send these back, hopefully for a refund or swap for another brand.

im thinking of getting GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit as a replacement, are these reliable?

i dont feel too bad though because i got an Acer p223w for my birthday yesterday so its not all bad :D

lol i couldnt believe it, one minute all is well then 'plink' pc is stuck in a bsod/reboot cycle

I have the PC2-6400 Black Dragon ram. It's good stuff so far. Overclocked it to 900 5-5-5-15 and it was perfectly stable.

i did think about getting pc2-6400 as i only run my E8400 at 3.6 for 24/7 use (stock volts)

uyea ballistix is annoying as hell, ive finially managed to get 4 sticks that dont bsod on me tho so got 4gb. but it was a long and painful task :(
when i bought my pc new i had (2x1gb) kit and i thought they were fine, botted no prob doing things was ok, started clocking my pc and was fine on the stress, but once i did blend it failed in 3 seconds, so did a mem test..... broken stick :( so had to send them back so didnt have a pc for a week after just having it.

then i wanted to upgrade to 4gb..... so bought a set while they were on offer (under 1/2 the price i paid for the origional pair!!!) and they came, installed, upped volts but failed memtest and was bsoding in games and some apps, sent them back...
got the replacements, same thing, sent them off again..... replacements..... broken again!!!!!!! sent them off a final time and these sticks finially worked!!!!!!!! my god i was so happy!!!!! so all in all ive had to send 1 pair back once and the other pair back 3 times!!!! i would stay clear really, but if they work they are great :p

I'm afraid that I'm rapidly falling out of love with Crucial - I do think their RMA system is fabulous, but so far this year I have had to RMA 6 (SIX!) times and one set of PC8500 hasn't quite lasted 3 months. I'm running them within specified speeds (usually at about 1000MHz) and at the correct timings, and I don't run over 2V, but they do seem a bit weak. Now, at £4.50 a time to send them back RMSD I could have had another kit of RAM just for the return postage this year alone.

I want to recommend them, but I just can't anymore.

Corsair might be a few pounds more, and they may not overclock so well, but actually, they're reliable - and I like reliable.

Fell out big time with Crucial after a couple of sets of the infamous PC4000 DDR stuff. Just can't make myself buy another set. Went for the Crucial stuff this time and hope all goes well.

just got my replacement ram today, opened the box and there was 2 shiney new 1gb sticks
looking at me lol. not bad, send 1 off, and get two back! bargain!:)

Had various crucial ballistix over the years and never had 1 stick go bad. Very lucky I guess.
Then again I never pump any volts through them, so maybe they should not have 2.2v in the SPD.

Have killed three sticks of Ballistix, two PC3200 sticks and one PC5300. I think they tend to run pretty hot, and if not cooled well they die fairly quickly. All of the dead ones were running in a particularly hot case with no airflow over the RAM. Now I have two more sticks of the PC5300 alongside 2GB of OCZ in a well-cooled Antec P182, and they've been running for a year or so with no problems.

To their credit, Crucial's RMA is pretty good, but if any more die I'm gonna go all OCZ.

my 4th set out of 5 have just died (the 1st set still going after 14months unlike the rest) of the pc 8500 only just pushing Pc6400 speeds and they die and ive had a fan over them from day one as they do run bloody hot even when doing nothing, think i mite try the 4gb OCZ reaper x stuf next as 4 sticks of this junk is not working for long ,

well i have the new pair running at 1.8v 1000mhz 5 5 5 15 fine so ill see how long they last at that:)

the previous pair caused unstability and reboots ect at anything less than 2.0v 1000mhz
