crudallistix

Corsair might be a few pounds more, and they may not overclock so well, but actually, they're reliable - and I like reliable.

The only bit of RAM I've ever had to RMA was Corsair. But that was just bad luck, every manufacturer has some. I've only had one set of Crucial ballistix, its going OK so far, but after all the reports of failures I won't buy more. It will be Corsair all the way for me now, especially since they have a UK/Europe RMA process now supposedly.

What I can say is that Crucial ECC registered RAM has always served me well ;)

well one of mine went belly up just before weekend sadly was purchased second hand so havent bothered to send it back just got another 1gb stick on its way just as well its quite cheap now.

You don't need a receipt to RMA Ballistix, so you could be the 10th owner and they'll still replace it.

I've been running Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz kit for over 18months in my Asus P5B deluxe board @2.15volts which is running a E6600 moderately clocked to 2700 (33idle temp ;) on stock volts) and the sticks have been rock solid tbh.

I often wonder if its a motherboard compatibility problem esp when its comes to Ballistix, after all they wouldn't be the first ram manufacturer to have problems with certain brands of boards esp when the designed to run outside of motherboard stock SPD volts.

Ive bought tons of ram over the many years and so far these sticks have been the pick of the bunch. Like all hardware sometimes your unlucky and get a dud from flaky batch and well happy customers rarely feel the need to post about their contentedness, if you catch my drift.

Well tbh if you're going to run it at 5-3-3-15 @ 300mhz you could probably run it at 1.8v.

I've fitted Ballistix to number of machines over the last 12months and ive always found them to be unstable at 2.00 and lower even when running @ SPD, both in asus and abit boards. (Although admittedly those posted timings are a tad loose :) time for a tweak)

p.s apologies for the poor cropping on the posted pics

Opposite experience with me - I had forever had problems with my Geil PC6400 on my Asus P5B Deluxe, so I got rid of em and got 2x1gb Crucial Ballistix PC6400C4. Never looked back since. Then last summer, I decided to get my P35-DQ6 with Vista 64 installed on it, ordered another 2x1gb Ballistix (total 4gb) and yet again, all rock steady for me. They do run quite hot, and put just 2.05v through them. Use computer every day, and havent failed. Plan to push them a bit by running them at 450mhz (already tested in Memtest with tight timings, all OK)

My 4 x 1GB of Ballistix has been running fine, at least so far... Nice tight 3-3-3-12 timings at DDR2-667 at 2.0v. The tight timings make a sgnificant difference with what I do.

just alittle update on my previous post. Ive tightened the timings ;) currently testing stability on a slightly lowered voltage of 2.05 (previously 2.15) so far so good.

This problem happened a couple of years ago Ballisitx were falling like flies. Bollistix was the term used back then. Got a set of PC6400 Ballistix and touch wood they are fine, but I don't think I'll be getting any more after hearing about their RMA procedure.

I thought their RMA procedure was one of the best and easiest in the business, and UK based as well ?

I've never had any issues with getting mine RMA'd - usually within 4 days, the only bind is you have to pay for the return postage.

agreed their rma service excellent.

But aren't they replacing duff RAM with single sided stuff that doesn't clock well?

Not that im aware. They replace like for like or when not possible (production line phased out) the latest version of a product.
