my current car is the first I have had with cruise control

I must admit it is totally lost on me as to why anyone would use or want this

When I have tried it I feel as though I do not have full control of the car and tbh see no benefit at all in having it

any thoughts ?

I'd dealy love to have cruise control, on a long trip (300miles+) my ancles ache unless i stop and waste time :(

On long motorway journies I would appreciate it, a 5.5 hour stint to the north of Scotland had my leg aching at the end of it but I suppose I should have stopped half way.

It's only for long motorway journeys and allows you to relax your right foot. Pretty useful when there isn't much traffic but on/off/on/off when it's busier.

Agreed, very odd feeling. If I want my car to drive itself I'd have got a bus.

I feel I do not have proper control and that my reaction times are impaired by using it

also are ther really many roads so empty that you can set it and cruise for miles without needing any change in speed

Yeah I feel the same. I like the idea of it, but I can never truly relax when its turned on. I find my right foot hovering over the brake, which is more uncomfortable than just resting it on the accelerator. I guess it depends on the time you driver. Its fine at night when the motorways are clear, but the rest of the time I find its just too busy.

maybe I just don't get the chance to drive on roads quiet enough very often

To prevent pins & needles in the soles of your feet lol. :p

so it's there to cure a problem I have never experinced :D

I always find that the M74(?) (the stint between carlisle and glasgow) is pretty much empty, infact tbh except for the M4/M40/M25 and low down on the M6 i think you could use it a lot of the time.

I absolutely love Cruise Control to the extent that I will now NOT buy a car which doesn't have it fitted.

I did about 350 miles today.. used cruise for the majority of it. I wouldnt be without it. I use it for:

a) Cruising at 70-75 on Motorways and dual carriageways
b) Maintaining 30-40mph in irritating speed limits like Motorway roadworks to avoid straying over the limit - use it every day on Embankment Road in Plymouth as you set it to 40 and forget about the speed cameras.

Now, maybe its a pain in busy areas but down here in the South West it's absolutely brilliant and I rarely find a motorway journey where I cannot use it extensively.

.

you just like gadgets on cars :D

all I need is electric front windows , mirrors , remote locking and aircon :p

I will not buy a car which doesn't have at least:

a) Air Conditioning
b) Cruise Control
c) Front/rear electric windows (Dont want a stupid handle anywhere)
d) Remote locking/electric mirrors.

I *can* (although would prefer not to) live without the rest of the stuff.

Cruise is fantastic in a big car on an empty motorway. You can give your legs a good stretch, perhaps even do a little jig...

I love having cruise control, isn't it active cruise control on your M3 Rotty?

ie maintains a distance if the traffic in front slows down.

Cruise is great, especially on long M-way trips.

Also, quite handy when mr plodd sits on your tail...... :D

I use it an awful lot in the truck, very relaxed. :)

Cruise control is always handy, even in my Corsa :p

I drove to Scotland from London and back again, non-stop except for fuel using cruise control and never felt tired. Did the same from London to Wales and back again without cruise control and my feet was numb.

I also find it helps to travel through scamera invested regions, through specs or when being paced by a copper on the motorway :o
