Crumpet and.... mayo?

GD, settle a dispute for me.

A mate just asked for mayonnaise rather than butter to have with his crumpet.

Now my gut instinct is that this friend is in need of an intervention.

Where do we start? Or, is this something weird you northerners do?

I’ve literally just devoured 3 thick crumpets drowned in butter.
The only other acceptable topping is a poached egg.

Just had an idle thought... crumpets in an Air Fryer, anyone tried that as an alternative to toasting? Possibly cheaper? I mean air fryers are basically the 5th Beatle.
