CryEngine 3

I've a feeling it's primarily aimed at opening / in-game cinematics, which the realtime mo-cap feedback would be ideal for.

I'd imagine that 3d studios who currently do low/mid quality offline rendering for tv series, etc... will be all over this like a rash. Or at least they should be.

Would also come in handy doing pre-vis work for films as well I guess.

I suspect it's aimed at both to be honest, no point putting all the effort in to just one industry when it could have multiple applications. You just have to look at stuff like the Uncharted games and LA Noir to see the difference that mo-cap can add. :)

Crytek registered some trademarks last year for technology for

Production and distribution of films, video films, motion picture films; production and distribution of monoscopic and stereoscopic, electronic, digital video and film

So its clear that the film industry is something they've had their eyes on. There's mention of games for other parts of the trademark so I dont doubt that there's likely to be uses in the games industry as well. :)

Very true. I'm sure it is aimed at both as you say.

My initial post would have made more sense if I'd put ' I've a feeling atm it's primarily aimed ', as I have a hard time imagining how many 990x's & gtx 580's they'll need to get the visuals up to ILM, Digital Domain, Weta, etc... quality :)

Aye I dont expect them to take on the big guns that are out to photo realism. But I can certainly see a small studio looking to make a fully animated film looking to use it. It's not going to be Pixar quality or anything. :)

I'm not sure (and no expert!) but I wouldn't have thought it would be aimed to run on your top of the range GTX580. For the animation/film industry I'd imagine the professional 6gb ram per card monsters would be preferable for the super hi-res textures they use.
