**CRYORIG is new and so is R1 cooler!**

Cryorig coolers €xx,xx and fans €xx,xx available pre-order in Germany now with February delivery. Prices are cheaper than I expected. :D

Have done most of the testing on R1 Ultimate now. I have absolutely no complaints. The mount is a pleasure to install, cooler is beautiful and performs great. I'm not ready to say it's the best but it is definitely right up there.

I'm now building my Define R2 with the R1 Ultimate for a photo shoot.. LOL... My photo "skills" and "studio" are a joke, but will have some pics up hopefully tomorrow.

Than I'm back onto the test station for more testing of PH-TC14PE and Silver Arrow SB-E for comparison to R1 Ultimate. As soon as I start running these test I will be able to say just how good I think the R1 Ultimate is.. but until than I don't actually have confirmed comparisons.

Reason is my original testing was done with a GA-EX58-UD3R under i7 920 and that has changed to a GA-X58A-UD3R. Rest of components are the same... so my gut feeling is test results if not identical will be very close to what they were before.. probably less than +/-2c.. and as much as I would like to have tighter tolerances there are just too many variables in play. Results are probably only +/-1c, but to be safe I'm saying +/-2c.

Edit:
Vortez review.
Only compare air coolers here. Their CLC results are about 4-7c lower than they should be compared to their air cooler results. (room temp as base temperature and not the actual air temp going into cooler / radiator)
Conclusion

Most reading this will have never heard of CRYORIG before because they are newcomers to the cooling market but this, their debut is filled with great prospects.

Straight out the box, it’s clear to see CRYORIG are keen to make a lasting impression with R1 Ultimate. Packaging is attractive, well thought-out and the accessories bundle is laden with plenty of useful items – they’ve gone the extra mile.

CRYORIG’s R1 Ultimate has been engineered to an extremely high standard. Unlike many newer manufacturers it evokes the mature sensibilities of a veteran design, with none of the 'rough around the edges' feel which less well-appointed coolers exhibit.

Not only does R1 Ultimate ooze style on just about every level, but it actually works. Too often do we find companies introducing dressed up innovations as part of their feature-sets which fail to deliver but this is not so with CRYORIG’s new offering. During our stock, overclocked and passive tests this new cooler proved its worth and consistency, battling it out with some of the forerunners of the cooling league. Furthermore, the FX140 cooling fans needed only 1400RPM to achieve the results on the preceding pages whilst previously reviewed rival offerings required significantly more, thus bringing in unnecessary and unwanted noise.

Here's a little more detail of what I mean about testing CLC and air coolers in cases without monitoring the air temperature going into cooler / radiator.

Vortez comparison of R1 Ultimate show:
  • Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme 2.6c cooler with 2x 2500rpm 130cfm fans
  • Silverstone HE01 is only 0.5c cooler with 2000rpm 171cfm fan
  • Dark Rock Pro 2 is 4.1c warmer,
  • NH-D14 SE2011 is 7.9c warmer.

Vortez only monitors room ambient instead of monitoring the temperature of air going into cooler / radiator. This skews their CLC reading to be 5-10c warmer. Not using cooler/radiator intake air temp when testing in a case means CLCs have definite advantage over air coolers because
  • they move more air through case (their fans are additional exhaust from case)
  • they dump all their own heated air outside of case
  • air coolers dump their heated air inside of case
  • raising the case air temperature
  • every degree warmer the air going into cooler/radiator is translates to about a degree warmer the CPU is
i7 3820 @4.75GHz
Temperature is delta.

That does not take into consideration the sound level of the coolers compared to CryOrig R1 Ultimate. ;)

Maybe.
I'm not surprised the R12 does not perform as well passively. The radiators are 60% blocks by the fin end tabs. That is probably the reason perform as well passively but does with fans.

The first and second images in post 26 show what I mean. So does the last image in post 25
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=25541019&postcount=26

We will see how R1 Ulitimate does with TY-147, TY-143 and PH-F140HP fans soon. ;)

I would rather use PH-F140HP_BK PWM but don't have any. :( Suppose I could try the PH-F140SP but they are not PWM either... and have 140mm mounting too.. just prefer using PWM fans full stop. :D

K2 = 146 x 154 x 160 (W x D xH) (with fans)
R1 = 140 x 130 x 168.3mm (with fans)

Edit:
I just measured mine at widest point is 141.29mm, the fan clips, and I could easily take them off and spring them to fit within the 140mm specified by CryOrig.

Slot spacing is the same on all mobos mate.. or it wouldn't match the case slots. ;) The difference is the placement of CPU socket.. it's closer to the top slot. :D

I do see what you mean. in the picture. CryOrig R1 Ultimate would gain you 3mm.

Even the new Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E with it's offset design is 67.82mm from PCI side to center of CPU Your K2 is 72mm (70mm without fan clips).. only 4.28 or 2.28mm less.

I can understand how frustrating CPU being so close to PCI slot. On my boards the first slot is blocked by the NB heatsink. I only use 1 video card. Only other card is audio so no issues for me.

Assuming Antec 300 has 170mm CPU clearance.
Cryorig R1 Ultimate is 168.3mm tall so no problem there.

But if Antec 300 has 170mm CPU clearance your RAM can be no taller than 36mm. to fit under the fan.. (probably with side cover touching fan and fan touching RAM)

178mm motherboard clearance
142mm fan & slot
36mm maximum RAM height in Antec 300

How tall is your Avexir Venom RAM?
Cryorig says:
Since the mounting height of the fans are adjustable between 177mm total height to 168mm at the lowest. Subtracting the total height of the fan itself 140mm and the difference of the CPU face and DIMM prop up distance, you get a space of
177-140+(8-2) = 43mm for the tallest configuration and 34mm for the lowest.
So RAM betwen 43mm~34mm will fit depending on your case.
Highest fan position allows 43mm RAM to fit (case must have 177mm CPU clearance)
  • Fan mounted as high as it will fit = 177mm + 8mm CPU = 185mm maximum height from motherboard.
  • 185mm with maximum height fan mounting
  • 142mm total fan & RAM (140mm fan + 2mm RAM slot = 142mm)
  • 43mm maximum RAM height with fan in highest position.

Lowest fan position allows 32mm RAM to fit (case must have 168.3mm CPU clearance)
  • Fan mounted as low as it will fit = 168mm + 8mm CPU = 176mm height from motherboard.
  • 176mm with minimum height fan mounting
  • 142mm total fan & RAM (140mm fan + 2mm RAM slot = 142mm)
  • 32mm maximum RAM height with fan in lowest position

The front fans are different. XT140 is 13mm thick with 13 blades and XF140 is 25mm thick with 11 blades.

XF140 SPECIFICATION
Dimension L140 mm x W140 mm x H25.4 mm
Weight 156 g
Rated Speed 700 ~ 1300 RPM ±10 %
Noise Level 19 ~ 23 dBA
Air Flow 76 CFM

XT140 SPECIFICATION
Dimension L140 mm x W140 mm x H13 mm
Weight 89 g
Rated Speed 700 ~ 1300 RPM ±10 %
Noise Level 20 ~ 24 dBA
Air Flow 65 CFM

I've been told the fins may be different on the front too for better RAM clearance but cannot yet confirm that.

Nothing like a little rip-off.

On another note, I'm hearing rumors the R1 Universal has 2-3mm more off-set to the rear. Combined with 13mm thick fan this means approx 16mm better RAM clearance.

Originally both R1 coolers were using white housing. To date I don't know if any R1 Universals have been released. I have not seen any reviews, heard of anyone receiving a pre-release sample or anyone buying one yet.

RAM clearance on motherboards with tall RAM on both sides of CPU is problematic. I don't know of any twin tower coolers that will work.. but there are a few very good single towers that will work.

Fin housings can be removed.
As I understand it the fin housings are basically the same.
Yes, you can put a XT140 on front. Would need XT140 fan clips.

Sorry, no. Still trying to get my test system back together. Swapped the R1 Ultimate for TC14PE on my sig rig and can't say I'm seeing enough difference to record. Keep in mind my sig rig is not overclocked.

Got a DimasTech Easy V.3.0 from wife for birthday. Thing is huge.. 490x430x205mm (WxDxH) high to motherboard. Think I want something smaller.

Was just reading HardOCP review.
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/03/04/cryorig_r1_ultimate_cpu_air_cooler_review/1

Was not impressed by their testing procedure.. not at all. They removed the fan clip / fin pack cover and raised the fan way above where it is supposed to set because they are using 52.5mm tall Vengeance RAM. I would be surprised if this did not compromised the cooling ability of R1 Ultimate by at least 1-3c, possibly more.

Overclock that CPU already!!!! :p

I had a Cooler Master test bench one but I got rid of it as it was pointless benching on that.

I have never overclocked.. :o well not in many years. I suppose I could use my UD5 for testing instead of UD3R with 920 on it. Don't know if 980 would run hotter or not.

Guess I should get the thumb out and find someone to be my OC Guru and do it. :D
