Crysis 10 Years On: Why It's Still Melting The Most Powerful Gaming PCs

Xbox 360 version looks good considering the ancient hardware it runs on!

It does but they had to scale back on the foliage massively, mountains with trees on the pc look like bare rock in the 360 version.

Its mad to think this game came out in 2007,

I have recently finished this on my msi gaming laptop and it ran great. Only had a odd fps drop. Still a really good shooter and think I'll start crysis 2. I haven't actually played crysis 3 so I'll get stuck into that once I'm done with 2.

Wow so it still onky uses 1 core. That's crazy

People to this day diss Crysis 3, though I thought it was great fun. It is quite a darker game.

Also,I was wondering for years why Crysis was still playable at lowish framerates and its explained in the video!

Thanks!

I don’t trust new releases anymore so I have been happily replaying old great games. Thank you so much for reminding me about this one. Can’t believe I didn’t think of it. Maybe I can finally max it out now ten years later!

I recall loving this game but the performance issues at the time were an issue, although it was surprisingly playable at 30FPS, whereas most games seemed to need 60FPS. Not sure if I’ve even played it on Ultra settings yet. I’m really looking forward to this. This was a truly stunning gameworld. Can’t wait!

I did actually try to play Crysis 3 recently but the performance was appalling! Is it broken on AMD cards? It didn’t even look that good but performance was so poor, I could not get into it. It’s not even a new game, I thought performance would be much better by now!?

Still stunning...

With your Vega 64? What frame rate are you getting?

Yes on Vega 64. I think it was like 40FPS but it felt unplayable. I'm used to 100 - 144FPS these days with the new monitor. I haven't seen less than 70-80FPS in any game even in new games and the Witcer 3 etc. maxed out - apart form Crysis 3. It felt broken to me!

Even with all the mods it doesn't look as impressive anymore especially in comparison to current gen but when you consider it's 11 years old...that is what still smacks you in the face as to how far ahead of its time it was.

Still looks great. Shame we have moved forward so little in recent years. There was an interesting video about the Far Cry series that highlighted the many features in FC2 that were more advanced than 3, 4 and even 5.I guess its all about solid console fps these days :(
Yeah i feel the best FC was FC 2. Each new game gets worse, fc 5 i unstalled in around an hour. I could just predict the kinda game that was ahead, same as before although too samey. Boring.

Currently the Crysis Collection is reduced on Steam.

Still worth a punt for under £10 I’d imagine?

Hmm was thinking buying this but then I saw two comment on the steam page that made me go "ahem what ?"

Do not buy the steam version of this game. I would try to track down a retail box version instead. Steam still refuses to supply 64 bit bin files and I have to force the game to run in dx9 mode to play it.

Why the developers had to put DRM on this and limit number of installations is beyond me. Won't allow me to start up the game due to what I believe is max number of installs :( Really wanted to play this and shouldnt be limited when myself and many others have paid for it. Steam also only has 32 bit version which is not as good as 64 bit. A good site to get this game from is GOG.com They do not have any DRM restrictions and the game is 64 bit. Crysis itself is an amazing game btw, just wish I could actually play it.
Is that true ?? Is not that I am in a rush buying the game, so since GOG has the 64bit version can just wait until they have it on a sale there.

Gaming hasn't moved on for a long time because many of the best and most innovative developers left the industry from what I've seen. What we've seen in recent years is work done by obviously far less talented teams (like Mass Effect Andromeda). Nothing to make us go wow, apart from a few exceptions.

When studios got taken over by salesmen types and the likes of EA/Ubisoft/Activision etc who stifled creativity, they just didn't want to do it any more. Or moved on to small indie projects.
