Crysis 2 minimum specs

O yeah sorry, forgot about that :o

I don't know how the 3850 performs, have a rough idea, but never looked at any expert reviews, however for my GPU, when I was doing reviews a few months after its release, iirc it beat the 8800GT by a good bit, for crysis iirc the difference was something like 10-15 FPS and it was different for each resolution and some other games it was a bit more iirc. When I say cards of similar performance, I mean within like 5 FPS for nearly every game, not just 1 or 2 games.

But my 4850 back then was the best 4850 you could buy for the money, won so many awards on nearly every well known expert review site iirc. So if it was just a stock ATI 4850 then yeah I agree, that the minimum for ATI should be a 4850 512MB card.

Personally IMO, HIS are the best brand you can buy for the ATI cards, don't know what the best brand for nvidia is as it has been a while since I last used one of their cards or did any research for there latest ones :p

Hope I explained that a bit better :p

i wonder if ill need a second 6950 flashed to 6970 to play on my 2560x1440? ill have to invest in it soon im sure

trailer looks nice, tho its only 720p, i adored the first one, my most played game since red alert 2

yeah read the edge interview with Cevat Yerli, he seems quite open and honest in the interview about what crytek are hoping to achieve with the game, and how the PC version is much more 'amped' up than the console versions, yet because of how much better optimised cryengine3 is, it shouldn't suffer from any of the horrible slowdown the original had. single most interesting thing for me was the point on the firsts games hatred of MSAA, and how the new engine has 'some special stuff...' going on in that department, can't wait to see the final result, one day before my birthday as well, roll on end of march! :D

edit: al4x im totally with you on that one, the amount of times i played through crysis, the time i spent tweaking my settings, etc. taking different approaches to objectives was a nice change from tunnel shooters you see most of the time. plus the huge, expansive environment made it a breath of fresh air i haven't experienced since, coincidently far cry! hated the trend of 'crysis bashing' though, where people would seemingly conjure up ridiculous reasons why it was a terrible game, the game didn't get worse after the alien ship level (which was damned eerie the first time i played it!) and the aliens ruined nothing! didn't wanna spend anymore time shooting hapless koreans anyways, so being shot with rapid fire icicle guns was a breath of fresh air again! maximum crysis, for the win!

One thing I learnt from Crysis is, take what the developers say with a pinch of salt, if you want the game, either play the demo if available or buy it, if it does not work lower the settings, but DO NOT take notice of system requirements if you're sure your PC is relatively powerful.

for me the only improvements crytek can possible make over crysis is 1) improve the shockingly bad foliage quality, the stigma of the first game! 2) superior performance, and for me thats it really. the original would look absolutely stunning if the foliage was smoothed out and not jaggy as hell, also native multi GPU support would be good, without having to do the whole r_MultiGPU = 1 business in the config.
Do you mean the the level of detail in the foliage? because other than the level of detail i thought was good enough until you actualy took a closer look. One way to improve the level of foliage detail is using the HighResolutionFoliage.pak mod which is excellent if detail is your thing. With regards to jaggy foliage i'm not sure what you mean?, i never use antialiasing quality settings and i don't really see that much jaggy foliage.

I wonder if it favours ATI cards.

I presume that it will be an nvidia titled game.
You can't miss the nvidia logo at startup. Crysis 2 will use nvidia's Stereoscopic 3D technology too. Crytek said AMD have support for their graphics hardware in Crysis 2, well CEO of Crytek mentioned Geforce 4/5 series and Radeon 5/6 series so i presume the devs have play tested the hardware.

Me too.

Crysis 2 interview

What guarantees can you offer, once and for all, that the PC version of Crysis 2 will be texturally equal to or better than Crysis?
You know what’s funny? When we released Crysis, back then people didn’t judge it for that. I’m frustrated about this. We said it was a game that was pushing boundaries, which would stay relevant in the future, and all we got was a backlash:

..will Crysis 2 have hi-res textures; will it get blurry? Crysis 2 will have a PC version that’s a PC game. We’re going to push it as much as the engine can take. It’ll be at least as beautiful as Crysis, but the context is different. It’s New York. Not a jungle, but an urban jungle.

Part of the fear from gamers comes down to the hardware maturing while many of the games seem to regress: console control systems, FOVs, textures. PC gamers are just fed up of it.
Yeah. Crysis 2 doesn’t suffer from that, in my opinion – it’s superior from every angle. But this isn’t necessarily a game you can’t play today, or where you need another two years to max it out. That’s not the approach this time. Now, it’s more like we want to give you the best PC experience with current high-end equipment. So if you bought the last high-end graphics card, you’re going to get a blast out of it. Likewise, the minimum-spec experience will be of a far higher quality than Crysis was.

Antialiasing. It was an issue with the foliage in Crysis. Is it a card manufacturers’ problem?
Yes and no, actually. I’ll be happy when they come up with something you just toggle on and have the user choose between performance and quality, but with the deferred pipeline we have, traditional MSAA implementations aren’t working out. It’s the way many modern engines work. That said, we do have some smart antialiasing systems going on and they’re not edge-softening solutions either. We’ve got something really nice going on there.

I don't see what other Crysis gamers saw with regards to the "foliage issue", what am i supposed to see?, lol.

I know my machine will meet the specs, all I'm really interested in now is the DRM because EA haven't been very consistent in that regard. I got burned with the DRM on Crysis Warhead.
Me too, i was not aware of the Deauthorization tool at warhead retail release.
No doubt legal copies of Crysis 2 will have to be activated online and i presume a deauthorization tool will be available for it.

EA Game Authorization Management Tool

Crysis 2 for PC is not a Console port.

The console version was made by a separate team in the UK.
Crysis 2 multiplayer only is being developed by Crytek UK (nottingham), i presume Crytek UK are developing the PC multiplayer?. I presume the single player is being developed by Crytek frankfurt?.

If it has limited activations I'll be giving it a miss. I'm still annoyed about how they disclosed the DRM for Warhead after my pre-order had shipped. It wasn't anywhere near as good as Crysis either.

I don't know about you but this video here looks AMAZING, graphics look excellent, probably be one of the best graphic games I have seen yet tbph:

So the only thing that could let it down is if it will be an extremely poor port like some of the games now a days, where you just have awful textures, crap settings menu where you can only change a few things (highly unlikely though) etc.

Looks outrageously good :D
