crysis 2 - Over the top spec yet again?

Heh :) I guess I can't roll out Carmageddon 2 either then!
GTA4 can't be far off, runs very poorly on dual core systems unless you have an obscene clockspeed.

Lost Planet:
Minimum requirements:
Processor: 1.5 GHz
Memory: 512 MB
Video: 128 MB
Free space: 400 MB
DirectX 9.0c
GeForce 6600 or greater
Pixel Shader 3.0

Halo:
Computer/Processor: 733 megahertz (MHz) processor.
DirectX: DirectX® 9.0 or later. (DirectX 9.0b is installed by Halo.)
Memory: 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
Hard Disk: 1.2 gigabytes (GB) of free hard disk space.
Video card: 32 MB with 3D Transform and Lighting capable.

My system was way, way (WAY!) more powerful than that, I'm talking P4-2.7ghz, 512/1GB RAM and ti4200/9800pro, and I still had to run it in 800x600 to get decent FPS. One of the worst bling:frametime ratios I've ever seen from a game - at least Crysis looks good!

I pay almost no attention to recomended or espiecally minimum requirements games give out. You'll probably get a more accurate anwesr just by looking at some screen shots and guessing. If I'm worrieda bout how something is gonna run I'd always look for some tests with similar specs to mine or maybe pirate it first to see how it runs.

Looks like the graphics have been dumbed-down for the consoles, so if you can play the first one, you can definitley play the second one.

That's even if you want to buy the second one, what with all the DRM that EA is likely to ruin it with.

Stands to reason they would need to cut corners to enable it to run on consoles, or at least write more efficient code for better performance.

For example the 360 GPU is equivalent to an ATI x1900/Nvidia 7900 which is below min spec for Crysis. It also renders at 720p, max x4 AA, pretty small compared to PC gaming.

I didn't even realise people paid attention for specs, I haven't checked them for years now. They really mean nothing to me anymore, I usually just use feedback to get a general idea.

I never really pay attention to spec but I'd be inclined to look at the recommended spec on the back of the game and take that as the minimum requirement for high end gaming.

As above Cryengine 3 will look like Cryengine 2 in medium settings. (At least for console)

Lets hope they build the game for PC instead of just making another port

It also renders at 720p, max x4 AA, pretty small compared to PC gaming.

The implication of that though is that even if performance is vaguely OK on a console, it might not be on a PC that's running at a very high resolution (say 2560x1600 which is more than four times 720p) with the AA cranked up. In fact it might be the sort of game that is heavily optimised for the cpu if the assumption is that relatively 'low' resolution is going to be utlised i.e. there is an assumption that only a certain fillrate is required.

Finished it on my laptop with a 7950gtx then when i got my desktop and 4870x2 i installed it played it for 15 mins on high ended up bored the game really doesnt look as good as some newer games imo just so badly coded

i dont think that Crysis 2 will be a pc port from consoles. one of the main aspects of the engine is that it is really useful for developers as they can update the stuff on the console in realtime from the sandbox on the pc that is connected to the console they are developing for. ill look for the video later but there is a demo of it and the PC version is stunning and the console version is... meh.

Definatly looking forwards to an urban setting, the jungle impressed but became repetitive.

They when your wandering around the Carrier, wow the enviromental & facial detail was astonishing
