I pasted this in Games section but im not sure if many people look on that.
So sorry in advanced for post.

Hi all,

I had 2 x 8800 ULTRAS,

now i have 1 HD 4870 X2...

Problems with both cards (so basically a fault in Crysis) is that on 1920 x 1080 on my HD screen, the resolution has a border around it, almost as if the resolution is 1600 x 900 (or something stupid like that).

It slows the game down even though the FPS counter states 35fps.

Has anyone come across this problem and a fix for it. It's honestly driving me crazy and i want to enjoy my game lol..

why would a border on your screen affect your fps.
i dont get it....the border is normally scaling which can be done on the monitor/tv or be done through graphics software.
wouldnt have thought it would affect the fps.

ofcourse i could be talking a load of trash so excuse me if i am :p

Wow, that was helpful memory....

Anyway Jimmy, have you tried specifying your resolution inside a config file for crysis to load on startup? I used to have a problem with resolutions on Crysis, though a bit different to yours.

Another thing to try is uninstall drivers for monitor and install the latest from manufacturers site.

as stated above make sure that in your nvidia control panel you have scaling turned onto Nvidia scaling not hardware/monitor scaling. Good luck..

why would a border on your screen affect your fps.

Because it would be processing through 2D clocking.. which my gcard is at 500 mhz or something.. Whereas it needs to process in 3d.

Driveres for monitor.. you mean for the ATI card or something?

Basically.. any resolution apart from 1920 x 1200 and 1700 x 1100 (or whatever it is) works..

So i have to play on 1620 x 1000 to make it work. It just doesnt make sense.. And i have set the 1920 x 1080 resolution in Crysis and it just post boxes again.. ill send a screeny later.. maybe thatll help.

the border is not being rendered. the images are being sent to the screen and only cover an area of smaller than the screen, so only fill that area.
besides, it wouldnt go to 2d clocks because of a border...

and the stuff on-screen is 3d.

ati card does scaling also in software....it does it automatically on my lcd.
go into your advanced options...select the display and put scaling at 0

Are you using an input on your TV which supports 1:1 pixel mapping (if your TV supports 1:1 mapping)?

Does it only happen on Crysis, or on anything else (desktop, other games etc)?

I know this isn't a big help, but I've played Crysis at 1920 x 1080 on my HD screen no problem (spec in sig) just pointing out that it's not always Crysis that causes problems...just normally is!

Ok so, my tv is in an HDMI port so yes 1:1 pixel mapping is fine.. ofcourse, every other game works.. so now im playing with the scaling settings..

I originallty had it on ENABLE GPU SCALING / Scale image to full panel size..

Im trying Maintain aspect ratio now.. wish my luck

Nah, i tired all scaling options and even ****** the whole computer with DTV propeties.. so im jumping on the banwagon and saying its crysis. Any more ideas fellas.. thanks being a great help so far.. coz i just havent a clue..!

Just because you are using an HDMI port doesn't mean you have 1:1 mapping. You only have 1:1 mapping if your TV supports it and it's only usually done, IIRC, on one of the HDMI inputs.

If you are sure that everything else is running at native and not being scaled, then only suggestion I have is to try a Crysis Custom config and see if that makes any difference.

Finally, did you do a complete driver clean when going from Nvidia to ATI?

EDIT: Forgot to say, also is output at 1920 x 1080 rather than 1080p, HDTV's seem to treat the two slightly differently, well, mine do.

Thanks for post..

-yes the TV is on 1:1 mapping as i have turned it on and i am using it to view desktop and all other games.

custom configurations in ATI control panel i shall have a look at. This could be an option.

-i used driver cleaner in the correct way mention within OCuk forums

-the resolution i have tried with 1920 x 1080 and in 1080p 60 aswell.

Thanks once again for the post.
