Crysis MP beta now open to everyone!

Wrong? Lol, ok.

Compare the game play to BF2/2142/CoD2 or any other decent multiplayer FPS.

Once the novelty of having nukes, being able to jump high/sprint fast/be camouflaged for 3 seconds and the game looking good wears off this game will be boring as hell.

The vehicles are both crap and overpowered, there is no squad-based game play, just a load of noobs running around, the ingame comms system is not nearly as smooth as it is in BF...I mean I could go on forever.

It's not novelty, it's an inherent part of the gameplay :o

ok, well i thought COD2 was just another ww2 shooter.. hmm origional?
Bf2, ok that was good, too many bugs etc though.
2142, futuristic pulled off really badly.. a poor man's bf2 really, crap maps etc.

2142 - decent?? BF2 isnt even decent really! its just we're starved of quality lately.. once the novelty of said vehicles etc in each wears off.. titans etc..
2142 - once the novelty of being camaflagued for.. 3 minutes? wears off..

I find it loads more interesting than said games, different tactics from different players, more customisation in kit too, silencers, different ammo, etc..

Idd, marmite baguette :D

I wasn't talking about originality. Obviously a game that has just come out is going to be...newer but many of the things in Crysis are worse than the equivalents in much older games, which it copies.

Take Battlefield. The ingame comms system for pointing out where enemies are, giving instructions and interacting with teammates in BF is brilliant, intuitive, easy to use and polished. Crysis lacks the majority of options offered in BF and those that are available are very poorly made.

Squad-based game play is fun. Agreed? Crysis has no squad-based gameplay and therefore no real team play.

Weapons customisation? Yeah, that's great but you only get 2 SMGs, 2 Assault rifles, 1 sniper rifle, 1 rocket launcher and a couple of alien weapons. In BF you get a choice of around 15 weapons + all the little gadgets.

I suspect it will be a bit like Stalker: terrible multiplayer with a good single player. I didn't really expect anything else anyway.

The only thing I really miss from BF2 at the moment is the easy communication, hopefully that tight appear in a patch or something.
Not overly bothered with sqauds.

I rarely found squads worthwhile in public servers in BF2 (other than for an extra spawn point) and if you went into competative play in Crysis you could easily organise yourself into squads via teamspeak or something.

Battlefield comms etc were great yes, crysis is still in beta though, and crytek will probably improve anything lacking right now, it is a beta remember..

Squad based game play is fun. Crysis has no squad buttons, saying no squad-based gameplay is utter rubbish though, it doesnt take much for 3-4 people to run around together, its not like in bf2 squads stayed together really though is it, like someone said, it was just handy for extra spawn point for a lot of people..
Teamspeak/vent can easily be used for people to do comms/squad up.
Spotting enemys could also really be seen as a balance issue, maybe they wanted it more action based, its already got enough fiddley bits with customisation, so another button to press may have been OTT, part of the skill is being able 2 flag an enemy without it being shown to you on minimap..
On classic SQUAD based games like cs(pre-source) verbal communication was a major part, the minimap was just to roughly show where your teammates where, you would know which was using a radio-command but not where the spotted enemy was.

Its just down ot dev preferance, i prefered the cs way of it over the bf2, it made bf2 too easy to find well hidden people to be honest!

BF2 weapons... hmm, I generally saw most of the weapons as useless, much like the rest of the community..
Most snipers used the beasty one, or the final unlock, with odd noob using the semi-auto.
assault was nearly always f2000, g3 was a rarity.
medic - sa80 all the way.
anti-tank - well talk about an overpowered shotty..
spec ops - personal preferance between the 2 unlocks
eng - well i cant even remember eng gun..
support - personal preference between 2 unlocks

either way there wasnt much diff between the guns for classes, odd one had a nade launcher, odd class had choice between SMG and shotty.. otherwise though its all fairly similar..
Crysis throws the kit customisation into it, bf2 didnt have that really did it?
2142 does, but in my eyes thats made heavily inferior just by the silencer/scopes/ironsight/bullet changability, choice of grenades and then all the mines/claymore choice etc too. Ontop of that you get your suite customisation which is on the fly :)

Crysis will only get better to be honest.. its started in a very good position, BF2 & 2142 started nowhere near as good as this.. major problems troubling both.
I think crysis will better than BF2 + 2142 did too, judging by my performance in just the beta!

I gather i've missed the opportunity to get a key by now?

keep an eye on the thread, just look for someone who mentions they dont really get remotely good performance or dont enjoy the game and are willing to pass their key on, I got mine off someone here last nite

quick question on performance:

this beta does not use much in the terms of physics, as in there is no destructable trees or buildings. also there is no AI used for enemys since the only baddies out there are the other players you play against.

so once the proper physics has been added and AI has been added, am i right in assuming even when the debugger and compiler is removed the performance may not get any better? other than the benefit of multithreading?

just wondering really, unless the physics and ai don;t tax the cpu much.

physics stuff will only be available in DX10 servers, which require clients to have vista+dx10 hardware to play.
These players can still connect to DX9 servers, but will not have the destroyable foilage etc etc.

In SP it will all be avail in DX9.
Performance will be improved in Final game.

If i was you i wouldnt worry, your spec isnt very shabby :)

Why do I always seem to miss it when people offer there keys ? Cant someone just pm me the key if they offering it out ?

you cant expect to backtrack through the past pages to see who asked first though, you have just got to get lucky, i missed a few before i finally got one :)
