Take Battlefield. The ingame comms system for pointing out where enemies are, giving instructions and interacting with teammates in BF is brilliant, intuitive, easy to use and polished. Crysis lacks the majority of options offered in BF and those that are available are very poorly made.
Squad-based game play is fun. Agreed? Crysis has no squad-based gameplay and therefore no real team play.
Weapons customisation? Yeah, that's great but you only get 2 SMGs, 2 Assault rifles, 1 sniper rifle, 1 rocket launcher and a couple of alien weapons. In BF you get a choice of around 15 weapons + all the little gadgets.
Battlefield comms etc were great yes, crysis is still in beta though, and crytek will probably improve anything lacking right now, it is a beta remember..
Squad based game play is fun. Crysis has no squad buttons, saying no squad-based gameplay is utter rubbish though, it doesnt take much for 3-4 people to run around together, its not like in bf2 squads stayed together really though is it, like someone said, it was just handy for extra spawn point for a lot of people..
Teamspeak/vent can easily be used for people to do comms/squad up.
Spotting enemys could also really be seen as a balance issue, maybe they wanted it more action based, its already got enough fiddley bits with customisation, so another button to press may have been OTT, part of the skill is being able 2 flag an enemy without it being shown to you on minimap..
On classic SQUAD based games like cs(pre-source) verbal communication was a major part, the minimap was just to roughly show where your teammates where, you would know which was using a radio-command but not where the spotted enemy was.
Its just down ot dev preferance, i prefered the cs way of it over the bf2, it made bf2 too easy to find well hidden people to be honest!
BF2 weapons... hmm, I generally saw most of the weapons as useless, much like the rest of the community..
Most snipers used the beasty one, or the final unlock, with odd noob using the semi-auto.
assault was nearly always f2000, g3 was a rarity.
medic - sa80 all the way.
anti-tank - well talk about an overpowered shotty..
spec ops - personal preferance between the 2 unlocks
eng - well i cant even remember eng gun..
support - personal preference between 2 unlocks
either way there wasnt much diff between the guns for classes, odd one had a nade launcher, odd class had choice between SMG and shotty.. otherwise though its all fairly similar..
Crysis throws the kit customisation into it, bf2 didnt have that really did it?
2142 does, but in my eyes thats made heavily inferior just by the silencer/scopes/ironsight/bullet changability, choice of grenades and then all the mines/claymore choice etc too. Ontop of that you get your suite customisation which is on the fly
Crysis will only get better to be honest.. its started in a very good position, BF2 & 2142 started nowhere near as good as this.. major problems troubling both.
I think crysis will better than BF2 + 2142 did too, judging by my performance in just the beta!
