Hi Guys,

I have the below system and im just wondering if im going to struggle to run Crysis on this system when it is finally released! If you think it is not suitable please let me know how you think i could upgrade it, obviously i dont want to spend sheds of money becuase i only just upgraded at the beginning of the year. Im guessing the best option is to go down the DX10 route, but your help would be appreciated. I dont want to take up loads of your time so just a few answers would be great!

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
OCZ ModStream 520w ATX2.2 Power Supply
Nvidia 7950GT
Running windows XP pro.

Cheers guys.

It'll run the game fine, it just depends on how much detail you want.

I'm finding the framerates in the beta too low on "high" settings (not even very high) so I keep setting everything to medium purely for the sake of smoothness, and it looks nowhere near as good on those settings, so you're probably going to need to set everything to low/medium.

Of course, we're talking about a beta. It's possibly very unoptimised and possibly running a debug script in the background, so the finished product might run a hell of a lot better. The demo is out on the 28th or something, so your best bet is to wait for that.

Any relativley low cost solutions?
regarding GFX card the 2900pro comes to mind?

Also i read somewhere that people who are running this game on DX9 wont be able to see all of the "special graphics" on multiplayer, such as shooting down trees etc. Which i really dnt want to happen!

Yes, apparently it's true that some physics effects will be disabled in the DirectX 9 version of multiplayer for the sake of improving performance. I guess this is one area DirectX 10 will actually make things faster.

I would be tempted to get a faster CPU E6600 or better from the MM the rest looks plenty good enough and maybe only upgrade the gfx when the next set of nvidia and ati cards come out .

I don't think he needs to worry about his CPU at all, especially if it's overclocked to at least 2.8GHz.

The weak spots in his system for Crysis are his graphics card (extremely important) and only having 2GB RAM (possibly not important but I get some major texture-caching think Battlefield 2 and 1GB.)

My processor is being overclocked today so hopefully that will do.
I dont mind upgrading my Graphics card, but im not sure what i should be upgrading to, 2900pro or a 8800 i think most people will say? Should i be going down the DX10 route? if so what else would i need if i got a new GFX card.

I know this is going to sound typical from an 8800 owner, but I hear 2900 performance is even worse.

I'd seriously wait for the official demo before judging anything though, it's only about 10 days off.

It depends what your demands are but if your spec does not run medium I would be very surprised, they would be excluding the majority

No one can answer your question till the demo comes out, beta doesnt sound consistent enough to judge though I'd like to know how much memory it generally is taking. The cpu is least of your worries

I didnt know what speed he was running the cpu at but if its overclocked well then that will be just fine , i still think a 7950gt card would be plenty good enough for now even though it isnt DX10 card but if you want to play it in high res then yes a new gfx card is a good idea , what monitor do you use and at what res do you play games ?? i will upgrade my gfx card when the next nvidia-ati cards are out .

With regards to the RAM situation to go any more than 3GB will require a 64bit OS, so a bit more expense there.

Would be worth it in the long run though.

cheers, i have just done my first overclock, but it has not gone well at all! i have posted results in overclocking and cooling forum. I want the game to look as good as possible really, but obviously by sending least amount of money! i want this game to be set up and ready for Far Cry 2 next year also, i currently have a 19" monitor but i think its a cheap make "Hanton" got it from ebay!! and i usually run 1280 X 1024 resolution

Is there any evidence that a C2D 6300 isn't quick enough for this game?

Is that aimed towards what i said ??? i am sure you could play crysis fine with that cpu @ stock but overclocked would be even better :) i am sure that some of the new games coming out soon will need a beast of a system if you want to run them at high res with everything on max but for me using my HDTV i dont need one because i only use 1360 x 768 .
