If you are going to run games at 1280 x 1024 then your card is defo good enough you just dont get some of the new stuff which DX10 cards can do .
 
I just gamed crysis on 512mb 7950GT OC , q6600 at 3.2ghz and 4gb ram on vista x64

FPS was poor at 1024 medium settings tbh.

Multiplayer was like 15-30fps at best, really dissappointed.

IMO the CPU will be fine, most games are bottlenecked by the graphics card.

I've yet to find a game that won't run well on my ageing athlon 3000 @ 2.5ghz.
 
Well if you added a 8800GTX to that and played a modern game thats CPU/GPU dependable you would see its a bottleneck, even a 7900GTX would be bottlenecked by that CPU m8.
 
That CPU is absolutely fine. Just clock it up to 3GHz and you'll be laughing. Your graphics card might not be quite up to the task though, but an 8800 would give you much better performance.
