Crysis Req

I tried to reinstall Far Cry at the weekend too, but the bloody disk is scratched :(
Try hair conditioner! I bought a Far Cry disk off the bay, and it wouldn't install... so I had a shower and bought the disk with me, and rubbed in loads of hair conditioner (on the data side of the disk, ofc) then carefully dried it with a nice fluffy towel (a corse one would just scratch it more), and it worked! Huzzah! :p :D

I remember when Farcry came out. The best card out at the time was the 9800XT and that used to struggle at 1280 resolutions and up. Wouldn't be suprised if this ended up the same.

1. Surely recommended would suggest DX10.
2. To those saying 8800s will struggle with DX10 - won't the cards actually perform more efficiently with the native API??

All else being equal, possibly. But it wouldn't surprise me to see DX10-mode using extra effects etc causing it to run slower than dx9. Look at how much slower CoD2 runs in DX9 compared to DX7 for example.

Lost Planet benchmarks also seem to suggest that DX10 can be slower if it's not implemented right.

I've managed to get disks working before by breathing on them and then wiping outwards with my shirt. But not this time. I think unfortunately looking at it, it genuinely is scratched in a couple of places rather than just a bit dirty with a faint line across it.

Almost tempted to buy another copy, saw it a while back for a fiver...

Yeh I tried breathing on this disk, I tried a few things but I think the conditioner might have "filled in" the scratches. You can get scratch removing kits, I dunno how good they are..?

@james.miller; yeah I thought that it was more about making it easier for the computer to process more 3d objects at one time, as well as some sweet water effects and shadows etc. I think we're gonna be expecting more water and vegetation in DX10 mode on Crysis :)

Just hope that pile of **** lost planets not an indication of dx 10 performance or we're all up the creek without a paddle.

The fact that the (breif) experience i had with lost planet showed xbox controller buttons telling me how to pick up a weapon indicates to me that it was far from optimised for PCs. I think it would be safe to assume we can expect better from crysis.

Doesn't really mean much though seeing as the controller is also used for pc's. Same thing with rainbow six vegas...which also ran like a turtle crippled with arthritis...hmm

COmpare those two game to... lets say oblivion, call of juarez and company of heroes. Graphically they blow both vegas and lost planet out of the water and they runn a hell of a lot smoother on my computer. Just because a game has DX10, doesnt means its well optimised - i'm sure that's stating the obvious to 99.9% of the people who read these forums however.

i reinstalled far few weeks ago and finished it yesterday, never finished when i first played it. the game looks great even for its ages, have to admint i really enjoyed it.

put it this way i would pay for CrySis lol

crysis will be the best indication of dx10 performance on the pc. if crysis runs slow then i rekon there will be a huge surge in the sales xbox360 and ps3's.

Oblivion is like good whiskey.....
whilst some think it's muddy water, others think its nectar from heaven
Farcry on the other hand was nothing more than a tin of fosters

OMG this is a sad day... watching someone sully an unblemished reputation...
Recant MooSey, there is still time :D

Far Cry set a standard that still hasnt been surpased today, over 3 years since its release: it revolutionised FPS gameplay by making it NON linear...

Ive just finsihed HL2 (Yeah Im late to that party :) ) while I found it stunning and enjoyable, like almost every other game in the Genre, its replayability for me will be limited because there is only one way to play the game. Not so with Far Cry. Stealth? Mass murder? Speed Runs? Climbing? It has it all...
Okay, so even an FC and Crytek Fanboi like me wont try and defend the story and the voice production, but even that had its charm in a comic book kitsch sort of way...

As for Crysis specs, it never ceases to amaze me how many threads there are on this... :)
The simple facts are:
1. There are no official specs and I would guess that there wont be any until the game is at the very least Beta (Post optimisation).
2. Just because your rig ran FC dont expect it to run Crysis
3. Todays top rig still wont run Crysis as well as next years will
4. Click the home page in my sig for a heads up regarding the first public release of OBSIDIAN EDGE 2, CryEngine2 screenshots

I'd say the opposite. I reckon if Crysis runs slow it will boost sales of high end pc hardware (specifically graphics cards). It's a AAA title and the kind of thing which will make people upgrade their PCs.

I really think people are kidding themselves if they think Crysis is going to run smoothly (i.e. min fps 40+) on max settings on current single card solutions. It's all speculation at this point of course, but that's what experience tells me about the most demanding titles. Heck, just look at Oblivion, a year old and even the 8800Ultra can't manage it in the most demanding areas.

seeing how rainbow 6 vegas and lost planet runs people say they are badly coded games.

crysis will be the best coded game around and if that runs slow then other games have no chance, hence why im just gonna jump on to a console and use the pc for rts games.
