Crysis vs Crysis Warhead - comparison

some point IMO
1 Crysis textures are def. better and less blurry to look at

2 i have never seen some much pop up in a game (warhead) 10 feet in front of you and things are still popping up!

3 the characters look better in Warhead , sorta more refined also the explosions etc and particle effects in war head are def. better than crysis.

so for better enviroment crysis wins it hands down , for nicer effects go for war head

but pop up is a real turn off for me in warhead even setting texture streaming to 0 doesnt help much

im just playing through Crysis for the first time after getting a PC to max it out on, and OMFG BBQ WTF the graphics are utterly gorgeous. One bit where theres a waterfall with a rainbow on it... its like real life ffs. Gorgeous.

Cant work out whether im just playing it for the graphics tho, as gameplay wise im so far unimpressed.

To me it looks like they lowered the resolution of their shader renderings, this makes things like the AO, shadows, specular and reflections a bit blockier but much quicker to render. It also looks like they really toned down the amount of SSS on the leaves, that's what gave them the more 3D look in the original. They may even have lowered the texture resolution for the leaves because they seem blockier around the edges now too.

So basically they didn't code it better they just toned down a lot of the higher end shader operations. I'm sure someone will figure out how to change the settings back to crysis ones soon enough.

It also runs slower.

Warhead runs no better for me but I think I know why, its because everything they've done makes it easier on the GPU but CPU use stays the same. I've got a mad graphics system so im bottlenecked by CPU, at least thats my theory on it.

Btw no one noticed the censoring in the second pic? :p

Must be, I don't want to be closing every app and process on my PC just to get warhead running faster, DX9, PP on gamer, Motion Blur on gamer and shadows on gamer and then its just about playable.

Are you saying you play with browsers open, apps like photoshop open? if so that wont help. I always shut down apps I am not using.

But anyway, have you considered formatting? What frames do you get? Maybe you are also one of those people who think 30 frames for crysis is utter poo. lol.

I aint formatting I did that not so long ago, its not my PC its working fine tbh, having Google Chrome on will not slow Crysis down.

Certainly shouldn't.. I frequently play Crysis with Photoshop and Firefox open and notice no detremental affect on performance :S As long as you have enough ram and nothing is hitting the hardrive often it should have minimal impact having idle programs sat there.
