Crysis vs Crysis Warhead - comparison

Well something wrong, as it ain't your graphics card. Unless as I mentioned earlier, you think 30fps is very slow and you need 60fps minimum. lol.

runs very similar to original crysis for me, though its much more forgiving when messing about with HDR and stuff, your right when you say the textures and draw distance is worse in warhead, but thats not something that cannot be re-activated by custom configs. the best thing about warhead is its much more action packed :) and TNA you don't even remotely need 60FPS in crysis, anything above 28 is fine here, no difference between 28 and 60 for me, in any other game 28 would be horrible

Warhead does have its moments.

Disgusting, 4870 performing what hardly any better than a 8800GT? What a mess Crytek have made :rolleyes:

Dunno about you but when I bought a 4870 to replace my 8800GT, I saw a massive gain in framerates across the board. Who are you to decry Crytek when you pirated their game anyway?

Indeed, this is what I am saying. But lots of people still think 28 frames is poo for this game. I dont get it my self, as I see no difference like you. As long as I am above 20 frames in this game I dont get lag, so why he need for the extra frames?

Some people are like, I only get 20-30 frames, which means this card is no good, so let me sell it and add another £100 to it and buy a 280 GTX and get 5 more frames. lol.

As far as I am concerned, the 4870 play every game you throw at it at maximum settings at my resolution (1920x1200). The only thing it cant handle at maximum is with max aa and af. But if the 4870 cant do that, then the 280 GTX will never do it, as the 4870 performs much better with 4x aa and even better at 8aa compared to 280 GTX. So going from a 4870 to a 280 GTX is silly I think. Best thing stick with it till next gen cards.

From reviews it looks like the GTX280 is still faster with AA. Just the 4870 appears to not have as big as hit with it.

below 28fps is laggy for me in Crysis Warhead.

I find anything above 20Fps playable in both Warhead and Crysis but that doesn't mean there isn't a difference between 30 and 60Fps as some people seem to be claiming, when i got 60Fps in the mines it just felt smoother and more responsive. It would be nice if the game felt like that all the way through, but as i said, even 20 will do me fine.

Just play on gamer then really. I get like 30-50fps on gamer I think. Need to check though, as I only had it on gamer for a few mins.

I find that when your immersed and playing the game you don't see a big difference in graphics from gamer to enthusiast. Your too busy fighting. lol.

Next time I play the game I am going to go search for calvin (the frog) :)

My fist post. Hi everyone!

I found the pop up in Crysis seriously off putting. Once I noticed it became really annoying. Have to say, I didn't notice so much of it in Warhead. Running both in DX9 mode as DX10 is pretty much unplayable. I haven't messed with config files as yet, is there a way to stop the popup? It's a texture streaming issue right?

Can't wait to play through warhead, plus with my 8800gt + accelero coming next week, coupled with squeezing my E6300 up to 3.5ghz, I think it should be great fun and will look better than my crysis did with my X1900xt.

You want to stick r_texture_streaming=1 into one of the config files, this will reduce the popin, but make sure you have at least 512mb of video memory as this increases utilization quite considerably. For more detailed information i suggest you take a look at This thread, courtesy of KNiVES, it's a pretty solid config with explanations of how most of it works. Well worth a look!

Don't forget to mention 1080p! (with dynamic frame buffering i admit) Who said consoles were rubbish? :D

texture streaming isn't what causes the pop-ups, its the games draw distance, you can easily fix that and doesn't seem to affect performance much, texture streaming affects mountain textures, etc. rather than vegetation pop-ups, but you should use r_texturesstreaming=0 since it does improve distant hills, etc with no noticable performance loss. try the following but will proberbly have a fair performance impact:

r_texturesstreaming=0
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 8192
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z = 256
e_cull_veg_activations = 100
e_view_dist_ratio = 80
e_view_dist_ratio_detail = 30
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation = 55
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.5
r_VegetationSpritesTexRes = 128
r_DynTexAtlasSpritesMaxSize = 32

Cheers

Thanks for the info. Just completed Warhead and I actually really enjoyed it. Gonna give Crysis another bash I think. Warhead seems a bit more focused and definately has a better plot with some decent cutscenes. It is quite short though but it's only an expansion.

Ahahahahahah

Well it's true, you're bringing other topics into here, just a typical troll why do you even bother, very immature. You know nothing so you have to make false assumptions. I mean how dare you try tell me something is pirated that I have when its not.

Even with texture streaming set to 0 some of the distant hills/mountains look pretty crappy.

I just finished Crysis for the first time and then Warhead straight after. I've played through Crysis in DX9 with the TripleC custome config tweaked to my liking and it look amazing with great performance (apart from inside the alien ship, that was a bit slow at times).

Warhead i also played with a custom config (Ultima's Custom LVL4 tweaked by me) and i thought this made the most out of Warhead. I was getting above 30fps pretty much the whole way through and it looked stunning. I agree that groud textures looked a little worse in Warhead than in Crysis but overall i loved the look of both games. So gad i waited til i had a new graphics card and there were some decent configs about!
