Unfortunately I don't have steam at work, so I can't check the one video, but assuming you're right.. you're talking about part of a map; Not lesser graphical quality, as per the Crysis discussion.

I must say I found the AI in Half Life 2 bad, it seemed worse than 1!

Although if I played 1 now it would probably be terrible AI.

Can't remember if it happened in Half Life 2, but even if its not its hardly an "elite stuff" that they included just to get hype up and then remove for no reason.

If its not in the game, then it was removed for gameplay reasons.
