Crysis!

He said the 5770 could max it out, then to prove this posted his own 5850 benchmarks which showed that it had a min of 23fps, the 5770 has a minimum of about 15fps which is not playable.

Oh sorry, I got confused by his post. Reading it, it appears that he's saying that having a minumum framerate in the 20's constitutes unplayable :)

How juvenile.

"I'll leave it at that", being I'm no longer willing to discuss what fps conditions 'maxing' it out has.

However, I'll happily wait for people calling 20-25fps a slideshow to show me the slideshow in a 20fps video.

you can clearly see in your heavily edited video that there is stuttering throughout...so even though you have edited it massively its still evident. also i notice your running mods...mods that make the game not vanilla.

the point is you claimed a 5770 could run the game maxed - yet i havent seen a piece of evidence from you that shows it can. this wouldnt even be an issue - but you continue to debate about it like its fact yet havent even proved it.

There seem to be several different matters at debate here:

.A 5770 can play crysis on the highest settings - I don't know the answer to this one, but cousin has a 5770, so might ask him.

.20-25 fps is smooth on crysis - I believe this to be true. Crysis is smooth at these framerates, moreso than other games. I reckon if people played crysis with Fraps off ,they wouldn't notice that it was running at 25 fps.

.Whether 'maxed out' means game settings or includes fps - I've always understood 'maxed out' to be solely indicatve of in-game settings, rather than anything performance related.

Please give me a time stamp where there is evident stuttering, according to you it's apparent through-out, so a couple time stamps shouldnt be hard to give me.

Pointing out that I'm running mods and that it's also an edited video does you no favors. These do nothing to change the fact that it's a 20fps average throughout.

So please, give me the times of the evident stuttering.

My definition of a maxed out game, is the ability to play it at maximum settings with playable fps, the odd jerk here and there is okay but nothing too drastic that reduces playability, eg; The ship level on Crysis.

What do you mean thats not default? ToD is set to 9 - exactly the same as yours,
My apologies there, I made a mistake, I missed it because my benchbox for some reason squashes the text up.
and I didn't run the Ice bench because you're getting higher averages in that than the default crysis, so i assumed the default bench would be a good enough indicator.
The point of the ice level bench is to show how low the fps can drop, yes it has higher averages but it has lower drops in fps too. Imo if my 6970 still can't max out crysis, then how can a 5850?

Still seems a bit strange to me though how your maximum frame rate of 36fps at 1920 is higher than your posted benchmark result which gets 32 fps at 1680 considering you used double the AA! Custom config used for the benchmark?

Nope, that actually also surprised me, and I'm not disputing that my card would also probably drop equally low at times, but those momentary drops are often not noticable. If they're apparent enough for you to notice them or affect gameplay then they're bad enough to have a markable impact on the average. In my opinion though, it's the average that determines the general performance - so whilst it's always nice to have as high a minimum as possible, it's not an indication of how your system performs.

But bare in mind, that the benchmark you pasted above is an average score, so its max fps would likely be 36-38fps @ 1680x1050 - still it seems my card performed well, probably due to newer drivers.
