Crysis!

Hmm, 20fps is just about playable if your pushing it. I prefer 30 though.

I remember the days before upgrading when I was playing UT2k4 at 10-15fps! That was quite tricky!

My personal experience

I had a 1920 x 1200 monitor..
5850.. max setting.. 4x aa - not really fun to play..
5870 .. as above - ok to play throughout.. mega explosions like a jeep going off in your face in the jungle with 8 or so people + grenades lags a bit but its only in those places it lags

My 2540x 1440 comes in a couple of days and I have my 6950 ( going to 6970) will see what happens then the 5870 is being sold

Deific, nice try ;), but no chance it will max out Crysis.

so why does mine get a solid 30fps when I havent got fraps/mods running? People were maxing out crysis (everything on very high with max aa/af) with 8800 cards and getting 15fps at resolutions of 1024x768. Of course the high end cards now are going to be able to max it at higher resolutions when they have huge increases in performance over 8xxx series.

Toms Hardware Benchmark of a 5850, shows 26.6fps @ 1920x1200 and 32fps @ 1680x1050. Not to mention that you can get a factory overclocked one for dirt cheap now that will add a 3-5fps gain over those results, if you don't want to clock your own. This is on top of the fact that, you know, I actually have one and can see for myself.

The amount of garbage some people on this forum spew out of their mouth about needing the highest end kit to do everything is just ridiculous - and still no matter what evidence I put forward to dissprove what they say, they come back with none of their own and more ignorant and uninformed statements about what they think it might run like.

Well I can't do any more than provide video proof and benchmarks.

All I've seen so far is fps snobbery and claims without anything to back it up. We have one person claiming you need 60fps and a gtx480 to get acceptable results, another refuting videos showing smooth 20fps rates and 5770s maxing the game.

I've provided benchmarks and videos showing that infact, a 5770 can run crysis very nicely indeed, and all I've heard is 'it can't and I have nothing to back it up but it can't because i said it can't'.

Back it up? Since when does anyone need evidence to state a perference or opinion? I've made very clear that it's just my opinion that I need 50fps minimum and 60fps average to be happy with the smoothness of gameplay.

I never refuted what the video showed, I refuted that 20fps denoted smooth gameplay.

Resolution. Something like 1920x1080 or higher will be much more intensive on the pixel shader than at yours, as demonstrated by al4x's experience above...

.....I'm running a 1920x1080 monitor, so that throws that out of the window doesn't it.

Ah sorry my bad, misread those few posts :o Point still remains that it'll take a lot of horsepower to render Crysis at high resolution, just therefore a testament to your card's performance :)

Suppose it depends on what one regards as good then. Personally I'm happy with the 20ish fps (subject to variation :D) I get on my 4670 @ 1280x1024. The goal does tend to be 60 though i suppose so people might have different responses to the same result.

The quality of the video makes no difference, even though it's 720p which is actually pretty decent.

Actually, the fact remains that the video shows a 20fps average at a very smooth and perfectly acceptable, if not good, level of playability. Again, I'd like to ask you to point out the so 'terrible' part of the video that stutters and lags because it's running at a lowly 20fps.

If it's as terrible as you say, then surely you can point out a couple of places in the video where this shows.

No response from redstarriot I notice.

Yeah I've been doing other things, there's more to life than running games at awful fps. Also I have never once said 20 fps is a slide show I was talking about ME trying to max crisis on my EYEFINITY that actually was a SLIDESHOW. I still don't think 20fps is good enough to enjoy the game though. Also the op wanted to experience crysis in all its glory so that's almost everything maxed at 1080 with 30 fps minimum. My opinion.

Also your using a 5850. Wasnt this about a 5770? Im actually gonna install my mates 5770 fire everything up to max and check it out. So we shall see how playable it is

im still a hundred percent with this bloke! nothing worse than people talking about the usual 'its 25FPS, therefore unplayable' rubbish all the time! :D

ok so whats the minimum for you? also the debate was about a 5770 being able to max crysis and im sure running well. Also I personally dont feel that being fussy about at least 25fps is rubbish at all. I want them to feel smooth so I enjoy them more

That was sonicuk, not me. Yes I am running it at 1920x1080

Ah yes. I wish I could have gotten my crysis running as well as you with a single 5850. Runs pretty well with two, though i still don't run all settings on Very High. Motion blur in particular causes a lot of freezing.

Playing 1920 x 1080 on Very high, unclocked q6600, 6870 and it seems a bit sluggish to start with, not sure on the fps, will do a fraps when i play it again tomoz
