Crytek CEO - No more PC exclusives

I dont think the supposed lack of sales for Crysis is anything to do with the games quality or piracy. Compared to other FPSes its graphics and gameplay are leagues ahead. Its just oversaturation of the market, the players are getting tired and apathetic over the same or similar products. Also Crysis requires a lot more player time investment, you cant just run and gun, you have to think about your moves and approach the enemy cautiously. The game is aimed at hardcore gamers which are a smaller market anyway.

The market is still there for a top quality FPS. Look at the sales of Orange Box for example.

With Crysis you first have all the hassle of setting it up and getting it to look right, then in game you have almost no help and you really have to fight and think to get anywhere in it.

The Orange Box is more casual and fun than Crysis. You just load it up with whatever settings, then they lead you through how to play, so you can easily and quickly get to having fun.

i dont believe that is the reason, i believe its because of steam. far harder to pirate a copy of a steam game that an independent release. i think GSC game world got it right when they cut a deal with valve for the release of stalker clear skys through steam. i doubt it'll be the only version but i bet its the version they are set to gain the most from.

to me, it seems the answer is to release all future games through online services using secure downloads. and tbh, with the benefit that platforms like steam bring, that wouldnt be a bad thing at all.

I would still like to be able to install steam games from DVD like i do now tho as when getting the lot purely by steam the download size was shocking.

Well have you people thought about the vast ammount of people playing subscription based games now like the most obvious example World of Warcraft. These kinds of games suck the life out of you, aswell as your money. I think last month was the fist time i saw wow out of the top 10 since release on XXXX.com. Another example is iv got two eve online accounts running, iv not got the money to spend on what in reality is an average single player game. So last year i brought COD4, Orange Box, CnC & had my 2 eve accounts. Oh and my house put in on a copy of BioShock. Skipped the rest.

Also AoC to add to those monthly subs next month.
