Crytek CEO - No more PC exclusives

This what I was trying to say crysis sold very well for a pc game, all piracy talk is just smoke and mirrors for the real reason that they are going multi platform and that is they think they can make a lot more money releasing their games on the home consoles.

I not saying that piracy doesn’t hurt the pc market I’m just saying it has became an easy excuse for devs.

I totally agree.

There was a similar thing in the film industry. Movie studios blaming piracy for poor box-office sales. However, most people agree that most new movies are terrible.

Infact, the games industry and movie industry are almost copying each other these days. With endless sequels, poor movie/game/tv show tie-ins and utter dross getting released.

Its far easier to blame the customer than to say, "Ok, its our fault for making a shoddy product".

To be fair to Crysis, while it may not be to everyone's taste it did sell 1m copies so it would be a bit inaccurate to call it a shoddy product. The whole "shoddy product" thing is used as an excuse. If you don't think something is worth buying, then do without rather than pirating it instead.

Think the reason it sold badly compared to cod4 was cod4 had a decent multi player section which i think was not available to pirate versions also cod4 ran decently on most setups some people like to try before they buy with demos

As for them moving to consoles they will have to rewrite there engine or optimise it beyond belief if they want it to run on current gen consoles if they did that for the pc they may get better sales

Who's left to "push the envelope" as it were now?

CryEngine2 is a stunning engine, no doubt about that, if they're abandoning PC gaming we're going to be stuck with another 2 years of games on the incredibly dull Unreal 3 engine.

:\

I think theyve pretty much already got the engine done for the consoles, theyve been showing it off and saying things like it runs well on "high" settings for consoles (most likely on much smaller maps of course).

Its a shame Crytek are now going multi-platform, as like many have said, Crysis 2 will most likely be made to work well on consoles, meaning possibly less detailed worlds and smaller maps (might make people with lesser PC's happier though). Were just going to have to wait and see how things turn out :(.

Pirating games is becoming increasing easier on consoles too, maybe games companies should make good games that people will want to buy, Crysis and UT3 and the developers comments are prime examples of making pretty games with poor game play and then complain about sales i just don't see the rational behind their thinking i think they got too caught up in the hype machine created by the small communities prior to their release.

this is a good thing, for too long PC games have been based on pretty graphics with rubbish game play, it is about time developers get realistic and make games for gamers and not enthusiasts who want to compare their crysis benchmark and graphics with others

Nice i wasnt a massive fan of crysis but anything thats going to make the "lets make a console game then make a nasty port for the pc" situation worse is not good in my eyes.

Console gamers do want a lot less from games than pc gamers, there is no dought in my mind about that, look at what changed from Elder scrolls 3 : morrowind ( developed for the pc) to Elder Scrolls 4 : oblivion (for the console), it was dumbed down so much it was unreal, the first one, a challenging intresting game despite its bugs, oblivion gave you everything on a plate, que me been really annoyed after buying the collectors edition of the game...

There's a substantial amount of Crysis hating here, it's not a bad game at all though. Its average review score according to gamerankings and metacritic is 91%, which is one of the highest scoring games in years for the PC platform. Beyond the claims and comments that Crysis was made primarily to show off the engine, there is actually a really good singleplayer campaign and good gameplay designs. Don't knock Crysis just because your system struggles with it - remember everyone else is experiencing the same too. Just a small defense for what I think is a really good game.

Starforce is way overkill, and bloody annoying too. I wont buy a game with starforce.

Best thing to do is give them a reason to buy the game - multiplayer action. Second best is steam, uncrackable till the day of release.

And still almost impossible to pirate. Steam is like a fortress. Unfortunately future iterations of Crysis is unlikely to appear on Steam, because EA is signed on to publish the series for Crytek, and their EA Link is a direct competitor to Valve's effort.

And LOL! Always have to laugh at those who say that "everyone" either has pirated software, or has had it. Grow up.

Under legal definitions you almost certainly will have.

Ever put music from a CD you bought To your mp3 player?

RIAA are trying to sue people for that too now :)

As well as playing music on headphones loud enough to be herd by coworkers ans an illegal broadcast.

Thats the fun, modern world we live in. Yep, i've put my cd's onto a flash drive for my car stereo for ease (rather have one 4 gig flash drive in the car than 30/cd's:D), but I have bought the cd's in the first place.

I never actually listen to them as cd's though, might as well buy them through itunes I suppose, but I like to have a hard copy:D

If this means that i'm a pirate, then so be it, but it's hardly in the same vein as someone who downloads games or music without paying. Thats just my opinion anyway.

I bought Crysis only to be let down by it.

Yes, I do buy games. TBH downloading 5+ gigs for most modern games is a little too much. Plus, if a game is good, I like to feel like i supporting the developers.

However, combination hype (on here) and the short (yet huge download) demo, led me to buying the game. And IMHO, I thought it was bad. Especially after the hype. Some were going on as if it was the second comming. Crysis was another game to fall to the old GFX>Gameplay/story. A beautiful game with all the depth of a puddle.
Strange here that the supporters all think that the people who dont like Crysis, think that people (like me :D ) have systems that are from the last century. Well, I'll have you know, I practically sold my soul for my current PC and it ran Crysis fine with all the little GFX all turned up. And it still was a shallow game.

So, I stand by my comment of "Shoddy Product".

I feel still Pc gaming has changed its not like Quake 1 days where it was just about Quake 1 and Duke nukem running around blowing each other to gibblets for endless hours and endless years, now were spoilt to the point were fussy and still bored ;)

Perhaps idsoftware needs to "redo" Quake ? :)

Too much choice tbh, i like it back in the day when the only game worth playing online was quake !

I get your point on this one. The online community feels far to fractured for most games.

It's a sad state of affairs when I'm moving away from games I like and just going out and picking the one with the biggest community.

"CEO handbook for dummies"

Chapter 1 - when all else fails, blame piracy.

don't worry about the fact you made an ok shooter which needs a supercomputer to run satisfactory let's blame those one eyed geezers on the open seas.

pathetic.

Just what I was going to say. An overhyped game with very heavy system requirements - that is why it had lacklustre sales.
