CS:GO Discussion

After talks of limiting frame rates yesterday I limited mine to 121 (60hz monitor) and it felt horrible. Like i was having constant imput lag?

Will anyone please explain to me why I am one of the worst players in cs go history?

I have the accuracy of a badly trained chimp and the reflexes of a stone.

I'm sure skill just comes naturally to people. I have put hundreds and hundreds of hours into this game only to find that I am still terrible.

I'm sure the 10,000 hour rule is a joke. It must be.

I am nowhere near increasing my level of skill (if you can call it that) and I am being absolutely humiliated by 12 years olds who are just destroying me.

keep at it. ive put 120 ish hours in and have definitely improved since first playing.

i watched a ton of youtube videos and played plenty of deathmatch. this helped aim and also watching pros play gives you little tips and techniques.

The 10,000 hour rule applies to guided practice with feedback and instruction.

Practice only makes perfect if you improve on your mistakes, otherwise it just ingrains bad habits.

On a more relevant note, I bet you're better than me. I'll fire it up some time and come find you and you can laugh at my ineptitude. I badly miss ADS whenever I go back to CS nowadays.

Accuracy /= skill. Accuracy is merely one component of skill. I'd rather have someone playing with me that understood the map and worked well with my play style than someone who ignores their team and just racks (or doesn't in some cases) up kills.

Accuracy is something that will improve with practice - deathmatch servers are a good place to start to get used to the weapons. Some people swear by using "training maps" - maps with different scenarios for you to begin to train muscle memory for gun movements and control. Personally, I've never used them let alone been on one in the 15 years I've been playing CS, but I don't see the harm in trying them.

Game-sense will come back to you from simply playing with other people. It's good to get a group of people to play regularly with, as you'll progress and improve together as you'll get used to each others' play styles. A good example is some of the people that have played with the CoK chaps - the improvement from some players has been fantastic to see!

How long have you played it for? As a guide I have put close to 1000 hours into Tribes Ascend since July 2012. Only reached level 50 (the highest rank) last week. I have played Tribes most week day evenings for over two years and played with a range of players, from scrubs to pro. I am still learning.

The point about playing skill based FPS games is you need a direction and you need a way to develop. A good way is to tag along with more experienced players and take their advice on board. But you can also learn a lot by watching youtube and twitch streams. I suppose the main point being a willingness to try a different approach if your current one is not working for you.

You could put a million hours into a game and never get better if you spend a million hours doing the same thing, making the same mistakes etc.

It also helps to temper the advice you receive with a play style you are comfortable with, particularly when it comes to mice, keyboard layout and config settings. Some things will be universally better for you - like higher FPS. Others, like keyboard layout are often subjective.

I had never played any Tribes game in my life when I started Tribes Ascend. As you would expect I was getting raped. But I got on board with some pro league players and they started off my development. Reddit has also been a great place for information. Now, I would say I am slightly above average as a TA player. House league standard, and I can hold my own in any duel. There are still players that put me to shame, but then you look at their play time and wonder if they have a life......lol :p For example, one of the players I started training with back in 2012 currently has 2,500 hrs on record. Some players have 4000+ hours.

You just have to adapt and try and put to use the things you have learned :)

OK, so trying to play competitive maps.

Keep getting the error "You are not connected to matchmaking servers" and booted back to home screen.

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

EDIT - can't get onto any servers of any game type. Same error.

EDIT 2 - Restarted steam and ran as administrator. Seems to have fixed it :)

7 wins 1 loss from the predictions above. The one I lost was a risky prediction. I didn't bet on it (3 bets today, all won) so all is good.

I have a lot of money on Dig vs iBP tomorrow, both games. iBP played SO well vs Fnatic, so now I have to think if I want to move the bets or no.

Buffet, I have played you at T:A... you're certainly better than "slightly above average" lol.

Give CSGO more time and you'll be owning soon enough.

Csgo has a weird thing with run and gun. If you dont time it right, the bullets are thrown off everywhere. Pistol is easier to train in many ways because most pistol dont have this effect, aim for head in dm could be good way to improve. Later apply to rifles (with more difficulty)

iBP was 10% on inferno, that was well worth a bet. Its 34% vs dig now. Is c9 at 29% vs VP an easier bet.
Shame about Skadoodle pushing solo to b car like that

NCG should beat Denial later on but 74% is making it bad value because denial could still get a win possibly

opening cases, I think he donated 8k to Pasha the other day

Steelseries Sensei is laser and Rival is optical but I think they'll use whatever their sponsors tell them to use and its not a giant difference between the two

Ive heard optical is best too but I think its also how well the product fits together overall and just personal preference

Optical is miles better. No +/- acceleration. Less skipping. Lower lift-off distance (virtually none). And the response is generally much smoother/more natural/more "analogue" etc... (well, most people I know think so).

Some laser mice are nice to use, I quite like my Corsair M60 for example, absolutely nothing wrong with it... just far less accurate in CS than the Zowie FK1 and Mionix Naos 7000 I'm using these days.
