CS:GO Discussion

Am I wrong in thinking this game skill matches in Competitive mode?

Me and a bunch of mates who have hardly played jumped in and were destroyed by our opponents. After losing the first half 14-1 we all quit and took the penalty.

It can't determine how good you are if you haven't played games against players yet. What was the point of quitting with 2 rounds left? :p

The thing is, if you and your team of mates haven't played a lot (or any) CS over the years, you will almost certainly be up against people with some map awareness and also some semblance of strats since it is a pretty hardcore team game for a shooter, and with the same fundamental map layouts for the last 10 years+.

You are probably best off playing public with your mates for a while till you get fully familiar with the whole CS maps/strats/gun handling stuff without getting frustrated by getting caned every time you play a comp.

Can someone explain to me the competitive cooldown times? They seem to me sooo inconsistent. I've only ever left 2 games in 54 comp matches due to internet cutting off. First cooldown was 24 hours. Then today 7 days?! I've seen a lot of people quit games when doing bad and only get 30min cooldowns.

Do you attack your team mates a lot?

I kill teammates atleast once a game and abandoned like 3 games in 60 wins. Never had anything more than 30 minute.

1 kill wont get you banned bro. And leaving a game 3 times in 60 matches wont matter either, it gives the system time to go back down to level 1 which is 30 minute ban. If you leave a day after you get a 30 min ban you'll get 2 hours.

Time to cool down is 1 week.

The cooldown system is a bit complicated.

Take it as a sort of levels. There are 5 levels.

Level 1: 30 minutes
Level 2: 2 hours
Level 3: 24 hours
Level 4: 2 days
Level 5: 7 days

Now, each time you leave a game, you go up one level. To go down a level, you need to not receive a penalty for one week.

So, lets say you have a 24 hour cooldown. From when that ends, you need to have 1 clean week for you to be at level 2. Another clean week will put you on level 1.

If you go to level 5, and leave a game, you will go to level 6 (still 7 days) but the difference is that to get back down to the 30 minutes cooldown, you need to wait 6 weeks rather than 5.

Untrusted accounts and teamkills have a different leveling system.

Btw, there is a difference between team hits and team kills. For example, you can do 50 dmg to a person each round but not kill them. This adds up until you hit a cap (say 500hp of damage). You normally get a warning, something along the lines of "If you keep doing team damage you will be kicked". Team kills just involves killing them, even if they have 1hp.

So you can get kicked for team hit (say 500hp) or team kill (3 kills, even if its 1hp per person).

I think the team kill/hit cool down is random. I got a 7 day ban for excessive team hitting, but I was on level 3 still.

Way better explanation than mine rofl, also forgot there was a 2 day cool down wtf.

I have to have a lot of clean weeks when I come back then :(. I think I must have got 7 days due to the amount of team damage I do ( I remember someone damaging me at the start of every round so done it back) then obviously all the accidental damage and team kills so it must have all added up over games.
