Hi guys,

I have just purchased a copy of CS GO for my son and he's running it on my wife's PC. I'm running my copy on my PC that's on the same network. I'm having trouble setting up a game with him.

I select Play > Play with friends and it sets up a lobby.

I'm able to send an invite and my son can join the lobby. We can communicate back and forth okay.

I choose the Game Setting option and select the defuse option.

I return to the lobby and change Permissions from Public to Private.

I then select Go.

My game starts up, but I get a message on my sons PC that I'm not playing on a server.

I try setting up a game on my sons account, set up exactly the same as above. He gets into the game, mine times out after 10 tries.

Am I doing something wrong?

Help!

Sounds like you're trying to play over the Internet (WAN) rather than the LAN. I'm assuming you know how to use the dev console. It's usually accessed via the tilde key (~) or the key to the left of 1 on the keyboard. When it pops up type 'sv_lan 1' then try hosting a game.

Try this;

>Create Game with BOTS.
>Open console and type sv_lan 1
>Then type status and look for your udp/ip address.

Open console on the other PC and type; connect IP:Port

To get rid of the Bots use bot_quota 0

Nice one guys, I'll try it in the morning.

What I would like to do ideally would be to play with my son on the same network, plus a couple of friends located elsewhere plus pad the rest out with bots. Is there not a way of setting this up?

Never played the game but I'd hope you could just setup a normal server on your machine and then have people connecting remotely, with your son manually connecting to your LAN IP address (if the game has a console I'd hope it has a "connect" command or similar).
