Thinking of buying CS:Source but am afraid it may mess up my ability to play UT3 :( or that my being used to UT games will prevent me from being any good ot CS:S

anyone else feel this way????

as with UT its fast paced, dive in head first blasting enemys away with 'unreal' powered weapons :)
CS is more sneaking around, siliently popping heads untill area it cleared, a lot more layed back, but you still requires 100% concentration

what do you lot think?

I used to play CS and TFC a lot a few years ago and not had problems with them. I now play TF2 and COD4 and don't have a problem switching between them either.

I think there's a bigger difference between CS:S and UT3 than there is between TF2 and CoD4, they're completely different playstyles and tempo.

CSS is a lottery :( you will be used to aiming at things to shoot them in UT, not really the case in CSS (unless you have a pistol in which case you can aim fire and kill with a single shot from anywhere on a map). I loved it at first but with each progressive patch (up to where i stopped playing) you had to relearn the dynamics of hitting targets because they had tweaked the netcode/hit boxes/something else that wasnt broken. It is currently a lottery in that you point a weapon in the general direction of an enemy and hope you hit him. Thats my opinion anyway, great game-butchered :(

i also feel like its 'too-late' to buy CS:S in a way since its been out for so long, other players who have played it since realease are just gonna totally pwn me lol.

I've played CS:S almost every day since it came out and there is still people better than me. Just play on some low skilled servers and work your way up to good ones.

This is not true at all  At least not in the past year that I've played

I played from the start and that is how I felt it had progressed. Looks like I stopped playing before you began but I have played it in the last two months and to be honest it felt the same as when I left it, which is good in that they didnt mess with it again, but it still feels spongy and imprescise :(

Having played both, UT3 was a huge disappointment. CSS is ok but i don't know, most the time its just people camping corners/corridors with sniper rifles aimed at head high, looking through a tiny gap...

thats called skill  some people get annoyed as they cant use some weapon and others can or they get killed quickly then they go mental and raging

There's always a way to kill someone. Weather it's someone camping with a sniper or someone hacking with aimbot. Don't just complain about them.

UT and other fast-paced FPS games like it (I include TF2 in this list) is more about mobility and frantic action, CS is slower-paced with just a couple of (lucky) shots between living and dying, then spending the rest of the round in spectator mode watching the campers :D

only problem with the CS games it can get a little boring in spec mode if you die too quikly too often :(
but then i find myself getting bored of UT3 quickly now, even tho its constant action :(

but if you good enough and kill everyone and have scores like 47:12 you will be enjoying in game but it might take you months/years to master how not to die and how to kill fastest way and not get damage your self.

And if you get good at it you can find some clan and play matches 5x5 that needs tactics.

As i been playing the game from cs 1.5 i find the game interesting and still playing competitive way even in lanpartys ;)

Why 47-12? lol

Bad score imo. ;)

I can hold my own in CS, im not at the top of the score board but im not at the bottom, i get killed quickly now and then, *sits out for 5 minutes, yawn* and get back in, i look round at my own team, 4 people standing at a corner, all bouncing round the corner now and then to get off a few rounds and a lucky kill, other than that on office, someone sits outside a window and shoots in...you know where everyone is going to be. For the most part anyway that is what i have found it to be.
And yes learning what high somones head is when they come round the corner does take some skill i suppose
