cs:s what is so good about it?

Source is rubbish. The original CS (back in the 1.3 days oh yes) was awesome :).

1.3?
CS lost it's real fun when they limited the jumping after Beta 5.2 or whichever it was. THAT was fun.

I'd win maps just playing with the shotty.
I prefer source now to 1.6, think maybe because i've lost the competetive edge i used to have and source is a bit more pick up and play.

Depends on your type of game.

Imo I found CSS boring, repetative, simple, easy. Theres nothing to it, like logic wise.

spawn, buy, shoot, die.

Thats source in a nutshell.

I don't really see whats so great about it so if someone can explain that. I know so many people play it and spend most of their teenage life on it, but why? I mean theres a lot better games such as BF series, Rts's etc.

It just seemed so simple minded imo. (P.S don't say I was a "noob" because I bought it when it came out ,came with HL2 that was DEC 2004 if I remember correctly, I've played it 16 hours in total, in a few hours of playing I was invited to a CAL team played a little then just unninstalled it as I got bored.)

16 hours of play time is a "noob". 6 months play time still makes you new. A CAL team after 16 hours play when you think the game is simple minded?

Decent clan's rarely recruit from public servers and after 16 hours play i doubt you'd be playing on any top class servers.

Play a few clan matches against some good teams and you won't be saying it is "simple". It is highly tactical. It has a simple play mechanic but the tactics mean everything at the higher abilities.

there is no skill involved anymore. Any random noob thats never played can run, literally run and spray with an ak and get hs. Try doing that on 1.6 and you would get no where.

The old game required skill, and tactics. Now, all you ever see is Spray and people complaining when they get owned by an awp.

to be good there is still plenty of skill involved. There's an element of spray and pray in every game and 1.6 is no exception. pretending it doesn't happen just to make a point is useless. Due to the nature of HSs in CS its always been the case that spraying can give easy kills even to the less experienced.
I don't like the whole negativity towards the AWP though. It's a hard gun to truely master but when you do it is very satisfying. Even in 1.6 the moaning is rife. There's always been some but never this bad.

I say they should bring back the scoped carbine, that was the best gun ever in any game. So so versatile, it was a tad unfair really.

the only spray that used to go on in a proper high skill 1.6 game was through the wall in b on d2, through the floor in ct spawn on d2 and through numerous doors and other walls.

most servers these days have the awp banned, meaning i cant use my fave gun, meaning i rarely play anymore.

Why exactly is the ability to hop around the map like a tool considered "fun".

I think people just got used to doing this crap in the quake games and somehow think every other fps should have it as well, god forbid people have to adopt new tactics.

I didn't play pub servers. Ok I did once and I got a headach from all the 12 year olds screaming down the mic. Uh how can 16 hours be "Noob" if I've played other FPS's? if you play fps its obvious your not going to be like "whats the shoot button". yes its simple minded. Take a game like BF2/2142/Joint ops, massive scale lots to consider, artillery, helicopters, jets, tanks, infantry, snipers etc. No I played in a CAL team in TWL ladders not for long I kinda just left as I got bored, like it was alright and all but its not really my game, but hey I didn't knock it until I tried it.

I don't give a crap anyway. Im not going to spend my whole teenage life wasting away on it so I can say "im 1337". I tried it I don't see any massive skill involved. Point and shoot.

You get that with every game. So because you play BF2 or whatever, you don't think you're wasting your life as apposed to playing CSS? This thread has gone completely off topic, the OP is asking what's so good about CSS, not every other FPS people happen to play.

it looks good, but Ive mastered sniping in bf2 and bf2142 and stick with that. my mate at uni is an ace and can get 15 kills before hes even damaged. But by that time thers some overweight 40year old dorks who live with their mum having a go at him calling him a cheater or a hacker etc. He says being kicked for cheating (when he isnt) is a compliment but it would hack me right off!!

A mate got me playing this when Soucre came out

It was so annoying at first with the 1 shot kills etc. But after a while you realise that unlike other shooters............. Its ok to die

There is skill involved, no doubt, and some know the maps inside out, but at the end of the day, once you get the hang of it, you can kill anyone with a head shot, even the best guy on the map.

You have to learn that when you die you havent lost, You may have injured another player enough for him to die if he is hit any where. so your team WINS

Its a team game so take one for the team

Yeah, they're a pain in the jaxie those dorks, much better with an overweight 18 year old dork who lives with his mum

the true addiction to css and why most people today who insist its brilliant (im one) is because after a few weeks practise and picking up the general use of the game (there really isnt much to it, the only thing you have to master is your aim and moving around efficiantly).

once youve understood all the buying part, whos your enemy, where the bombsites are, youll be fine. sure enough you will die a lot, but sooner or later, if you get semi good, youll love it, youll get a few kills in one round and feel awsome :D

then obviously, you get even better and just wanna sow off and show the latest noobs what you went through.

ags

Off topic, bunnyhopping - I see ppl doing it, expecially on Dust 2 going down the hill to CT Spawn.

They jump quite fast, then each jump is left to right and they don't seem to loose any momentum. They are really hard to shoot when they are jumping like this. I don't know how they managed to do it though?

I tried it but couldn't get the same effect and just lose speed.

But that is the same with Source, you don't get spraying in a high level game any more than you do in 1.6. We were comparing new people, not skilled players. New players get easy spray kills occasionally in both.

I'm not talking about bunny hopping, just the ability to jump around more effective,y. I never learnt how to bunnyhop and never played on servers where people did it frequently.
It just made movement much more fluid and provided more fun on a lot of the maps. In particular cs_siege which was stupidly one sided, and even more so after they limited the jumping. Before it, you could take on less experienced players with a shotgun and some flashes.

Who said anything about wasting a teenage life to say your "1337"? I'm just saying that you can't be fully tactically aware in CS with only 16 hours play. Having designed tactics for a clan back when i was good, i can tell you there is plenty of depth to it. Ok, if you are just following someone elses designs then it doesn't offer so much. Still to get people to learnt the plan inside out for a match is quite a challenge.
You didn't like it, that is fine, but saying it is a shallow game is untrue. You've not played enough to say that.
I'm in no way saying it is the deepest of FPSs either, i know that is not the case, but it still offers plenty of depth.
