cs:s what is so good about it?

Off topic, bunnyhopping - I see ppl doing it, expecially on Dust 2 going down the hill to CT Spawn.

They jump quite fast, then each jump is left to right and they don't seem to loose any momentum. They are really hard to shoot when they are jumping like this. I don't know how they managed to do it though?

I tried it but couldn't get the same effect and just lose speed.

Probably using a speed hack of some sort tbh.

Went off CSS a while ago, just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Hard to describe whats good about it.

Occasionally play with some friends. You need at least 4 aside to make it worth playing and tactics comes into it greatly.

The rats maps were always good I found. Started making my own map, spent aaagggess. And only got a little table done. It's massively time consuming.

Like marmite, you love it or you hate it. But then again, i'm kinda in the middle. Only play with people I know or you get high pitched 11 year olds on their microphones.

Edit.

  • Keep your crosshair at head height at all times. Whenever you're going around a corner keep it there, so many people have to raise their crosshair because they're aiming at your feet. This will give you a big advantage straight off.
  • Lower your sensitivity

I beg to differ a little, I found that a higher sensitivity helps but that might just be down to personal preferences.
I found that unless you are at a moderate distance trying to aim for the head with a colt/ak wasn't great. When spraying, go for the torso. :)
The best SMG I found was nice for something different, could never get to grips with the cheap sniper, thought the point in a sniper was that if you got then they would usually die.

I cant argue with the whole thing about 1.6 because css was the first FPS game i EVER played on a PC. Like nearly everyone at first i got a little wound up about been killed all the time and not gettin many kills, but as soon as i found a good community server to play on it made the game so much more enjoyable, everyone getting to know each other and having a laugh.

the community team became my first clan, but since then my gamesense and aim both improved before i left to join a clan who wanted to win and wanted to compete, i showed me a totally different side of the game, a side that made it so much more different. the whole tactical side, it changes the game completely from just jumping on a public server and running around with a M4.

IMO css is so good because at a competitive level, the tactical combat is just unbelievable, the way some players can come up with strats and then quickly call a rotation from attacking one bombsite to the next to confuse opponents, its just such a good game. Id personally say I play at quite a high level in UK, nowhere near high level european wise. But ive played against some very good players in matches & mixes.

but like ive said ive hardly played 1.6 maybe once or twice in a few daft late night mixes with mates, and true its very different with the recoil and movement, hitboxes etc, but id still honestly say i was quite decent at it, although getting shot through so many walls really annoyed me  but even after brief experiences with 1.6 id still say css is better, graphically miles better (even though i play with low settings and a config that makes the game so bland) but gameplay i find a lot better.

finish of my ramblings :)

Why exactly is the ability to hop around the map like a tool considered "fun".

Because it made it more of an arcade shooter rather than a 'tactical' shooter.

Kamakazie, just for reference i'm sure it was 1.3 that was the last version you could bunnyhop in, although they may have played about with it before then. Although that was fun, i really do think 1.6 was the pinnacle of CS. No bunnyhopping made it more tactical, which is exactly what it needed. It needed slowing down slightly, just to stop all the Q3 players from playing proper matches and winning on their own (see some vids of JohnnyR iirc from 1.3 to see what you could do)

I gave CSS a decent chance when it first came out. I mean a really good chance. All the competitive players wanted to know whether or not the 'competitive community' would switch or not, and i was one of them. In the end, there was no chance. Compared to playing 1.6, it was like playing CS in jelly. Awful movement, awful hitboxes, awful performance, awful guns, awful players.

I havent kept up with the 'scene' at all, so does CPL/CAL play 1.6 still or has it mvoed to CSS?

That sums it up for me although i prefer CZ to both, source is too ploddy and the death anims are lack lustre. Graphics are obviously better but gameplay wise it just lost its "feel".

it was the perfect online game WHEN IT WAS RELEASED

now its full of "exploiter's" and you would be hard pressed to find a server with out them

fun is the main reasen though

I think its a fantastic game all round, the graphics are nice, and the gameplay is very good for a game of its cost.

I was old skool too, i started playing CS in beta 5.2 and i had some great times, the community was amazing back then, it sucks these days but the game is still pretty fun :)

Its got to the stage where I feel that I am supposed to feel ashamed and guilty for liking and playing CS:S often, and not being one of the many that jump onto the "omg 1.6>C:SS tbh maytey!!1" even though they play neither of the games.

both have moved over to CSS but 1.6 is still the main one with CAL/CPL. Also now there is a CAL-EURO both open & main divisions for css now

there is nothing good about cs:s, it sucks, 1.6 is much better

come play 1.6 with me and ill teach you how to become a pro in no time ;)
