Hullo!

Believe it or not, I've never played Counter Strike. Since CS:S is on offer on Steam at the moment I was thinking about giving it a go. Is it still suitable for newcomers or is there just a hardcore group of players now which would exclude noobs? Also, I won't be able to exactly dedicate hours every day to it.

Worth buying or not?

Thanks in advance!

It's a classic and a great game, as for it being noob-friendly? Not particularly but it's definitely one of those games that if you stick to it for about a week you'll get better and better. But don't expect to be topping the leaderboards for at least a year.

I don't expect to ever be topping the leaderboard! Just as long as it wouldn't be a complete waste of time, that's all I ask. I've always been curious about CS but for some reason never got to play.

Yeah go and grab a copy and play on the deathmatch servers, great fun and it wont be a waste of time for you.

once you learn the maps, you will start to get the hang of it.

the trick is to tap the fire button and not hold, Be Silent by holding shift and try to aim for the head.

Some people will get you as soon as they pop round the corner and you will be like wtf.
but a new round will start and you will be on your way again.

give it about 7 hours of gameplay and you will start to get into it, you will understand the nooks and crannies and how the engine works.

cant go wrong to be fair just dont expect great visuals.

Story of my life when I play online FPS! How the hell do they do that?!

Anyway, I'm convinced. Handing over the debit card details now! Thanks chaps!

um to me it is, one of the WORST fps i've ever played. How it ever got so popular i don't know.

If you enjoy it, so be it ;)

CSS is awesome. You'll die, die again, probably be derided for being a noob and die some more. It's savage, fast, merciless, simple and repetitive. When it clicks and you kill the last three enemies with wit, guile and precision it is the best game ever

I used to love it*, but the more I played the more it's flaws became painfully obvious and ultimately I couldn't keep playing because of them.

Then when they released the Beta and didn't fix 6 year old issues, I gave up completely.
The new one (CS:GO) doesn't look any better to me from what I've seen/read.

*mixing in a clan. Got bored of public/GG/surf (**** death-match, seriously, worst thing ever) after 3 years of it.

theres a lot of hacking of there, you will notice a lot players seem to have 100% headshot accuarcy with any weapon from any distance, even if they just use wallhack it gives them a massive advantage, the only way to beat the wallers is to hope they 'forget' to click or you can get behind them. GOOD LUCK :D

Eh? I thought the fabled VAC was supposed to have put paid to this kind of nonsense?

Not a game I'd want to spend a lot of money on. But if it's in the same I guess it's worth it mind you it is a bit out dated now.

I can't wait for the new one that is supposed to be coming out.

I've had it in my library for ages, but never really played it because it was hard to get into it, and people hacking. But I'll definitely join some OcUK games sometime and see how I fare, as it's much more friendly when playing with fellow OC members.
