CS:S worth it for the new and non-hardcore?

There isn't nearly much hacking as some would have you believe. You have to remember CSS has been about donkeys years, there are some very very good players out there. Lots of people get owned left right and centre and cry hax

Oh and headphones people. Use your freakin ears! That guy who blew you head off as you rounded the corner didn't need a wallhack with all the noise

I'm not one who shouts 'hacker' at any good player, but when they're invincible (which has happened on a couple of occasions), you can usually tell. :p
Not sure if it's any better now though because that was probably over a year ago.

This. Learn the maps and use your ears, and you'll know where every nub on the map is without even seeing them.

CSS is 10 times better than Call of Duty Black Cops in the Battlefield #1047 Super-Mega Deluxe Version Including DLCs Alpha Omega Super 12 Year Old Hipster Apple User Force 2.

:D

I can't wait to get started now. Unfortunately my normally rock-solid internet connection is up and down like a whore's drawers at the moment and I've been unable to join a game.

Will definitely check out the OCUK server though!

Prolly have more fun with COD4 or MW2 tbh (avoid black ops like the plague).

I used to play a lot of CS/CS:S and liked it but the "reg" seems to have become more and more lol worthy over the years so I stopped playing it.

I'd have to say avoid MW2 as well if you are after the multilayer aspect. It's very difficult to find a lobby and usually if you manage to find one there seems to be a lot of hackers.

COD4 For The Win! (***! seems to be censored)

lol yeah. The game has changed over the years, its the same for everyone though

If you jump on a normal public server you'll be fine.

CSS is about thinking, not your speed of reactions so its surprisingly noob-friendly. It's a bit like fps chess.

Thanks for all the advice, chaps. Can't wait to give it a try but my connection is still flaky and I'm going away for the weekend.

How is the OCUK server with regard to noobs? Will I be welcomed with open arms or shouted at for being a clueless idiot? :D

I've recently started playing again after not playing for a few years and get absolutely spanked every game.
Seem to get shot behind walls due to hit box lag a lot more than back in the day as well. Forgot how much this game was about learning where to aim with the ak/m4 so that you get your spray headshot, you certainly don't aim at the head thats for sure.

I used to be able to absolutely dominate with the desert eagle with probably 60% headshots and 10:1 KDRs or better - but then it went progressively more and more rubbish "reg" wise - not sure if it was due to more and more people becoming aware of and tweaking their network settings or what - you'd turn a corner fire perfectly and... nothing - like your shot never happened. Or go for that instinctive shot that 2 years of practise meant your input would be dead on and a slight twitch would put you over the other player at the same time as you hit fire but somehow the other player's model wasn't quite where it should be (a bit hard to explain) when you shot and you'd miss entirely.

3 points:

1. it's very noob unfriendly - that's why it's awesome and that's why noobs like neil don't like it :)
2. forget source and play 1.6
3. again, don't listen to neil he is clearly a noob :p
