ctr ownership

you mean apart from needing your own personal dentist for the teeth shattering ride and the ridiculous understeer?

My second car was a 1991 MR2 turbo with full TEIN HA coilovers, front and rear top and bottom struts and a hell of a lot of weight saving performed on it. That juddered the hell out of me when I drove it. The FN2 is a positively smooth ride compared to that, plus I'm not a complete ***** so it doesn't bother me in the slightest :)

might give it a try tommorow but if the car ends up roof down in a ditch i'm blaming you :)

remember my day involved me driving a skoda octavia Derv mobile 8-12 hours a day :)

RESULT: wifey wants a full Milltek system for our anniversary (its too quiet )

What a wife!!! Mine tries to spoil all my car spending.

On exhausts why don't you try the Piper exhausts. Cheaper than a Miltek and excellent quality.

Get yourself over to www.seatcupra.net and take a look at the Piper sticky in the Leon Mk1 subforum.

Oh yeah, you're right, I'm actually lying

No wait, I'm not. The '2 had far more torque, but for drivability and fun the FN2 is much better; about the only thing I preferred about the 2 was 0-60 time (and rear visibility!). I can actually drive the FN2 quicker than I could the 2 on the same route.

If you're lying then so am I.

I had a well modified MR2 turbo and a CTR and for fun, the CTR wins every time. For performance obviously the MR2 was far quicker but I had a hell of a lot more fun in the CTR.

I've said it before but I reckon I could've got the CTR round a track quicker than I could've got my MR2.

Yea but he's talking about the new Civic eidolon.

When I drove the old even I had a grin at times. The new one was just a bit arse.

FN2 isn't a proper Type-R, it's a lardass with 90s suspension build for people who want to be cosseted rather than have a proper drivers car. :p

Cossetted?!?! Have you driven it? It will knock your fillings out even if you don't have any! The suspension is ridiculously firm and the ride is as a result apalling. Try driving at any speed down a B road and you'll be bouncing all over the plate really ruining your confidence.

I have a hard enough time over the ruined town roads in Cov in my LCR. I can only imagine wanting to buy an extra cushion if I owned a CTR :D

The FN2 *really* isn't that harsh. Maybe if you're coming from a Mondeo or 5 series it is, but from anything in a similar vein it's pretty much standard.

I love the 'no torks 111!!!!one' comments in these threads. They just go to show how many people have no idea about what torque actually is.

Find that hard to believe.

I don't.

Both my current Type-R and my previous SiR are more fun than both of my previous turbo-nutter cars, for precisely the reasons Jonny outlined :)

Quite agree. I bet you'll find a few things about the people commenting on the "lack" of torque : they haven't driven a CTR (or any Type-R for that matter), and they think torque is vastly important when driving fast. I must admit in my MR2 owning days (before driving/owning a CTR) I thought the same. I was wrong :)

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

:D

yeah, I know, was just saying that BHP/torque isn't the be all and end all when it comes to fun. I had loads of fun in the MGF and I'm absolutely loving the Golf, neither of which are performance beasts.

Compared with the previous Type R, it's bad.s

The biggest problem with the FN2 is that it's harsh without providing any benefit in handling. The previous Type R is quite stiff, but it provides the handling to justify it. The new one doesn't.

This is exactly what I found - most of the car was geared towards being more of a GT than a GTI. Then the ride ruined any cruising ability the rest of the car lended it to.

But the cruising ability in the rest of the car then didn't give you the handling you'd want from a nutter hot hatch.

It's just a car of two halfs, only neither half works with the other.

well good news, got the insurance changed over today :)

593 a year fully comp in a complete war zone of an area in Glasgow(east end) car parked on road standard alarm/immobillser for a Leon Cupra R 225 :) certainly cant grumble. Btw thats for both me and the missus (aged 26 and 27) and 5 yrs no claims
