well wifey has finally got bored of the vag tdi love and decided she wants to experience some of the old vtec yo.

loan approval came through this morning so this weekend me and the other half will be mainly hunting for a ctr,

Budgeting 10k(older shape circa 51-54 era)

anyone care to fill me in on daily running costs(currently run a fleet of octavias and the wifes a4 avant)

info on servicing costs, reliability fuel consumption(which i'm dreading) and any other useful advice would be good

and btw can anyone suggest an insurance company as our current insurer (swiftcover for the private policies) wont cover us on a ctr(both 26 full uk liscences for me 9 years her 7 and 6 years no claims )

It's a Honda, so I can't see reliability being an issue.

well i guess thats true although i'm used to being cosseted by lovely VP vag tdi's :)

have to also remind the wife not to change up at 3000rpms

Not really great cars for £10k to be honest. Loads of better hot hatches.

believe me Fox not my choice either (i mean ffs its one of them funny petroleum powered things for a start)

suggests a LCR but she doenst like the shape. suggested a nice 330 but no too big(she drives an A4 avant atm)

i tried to be a bit alpha about it and beat my chest and laid the law down but she kicked me in the nuts and told me no nookie for the rest of the year or a CTR on the drive my choice :)

Spend £6-7k on one instead then. Same car.

She's a woman Fox, Logic doenst come into this.

Thers a couple of nice presentable low mileage 51 plates on autotrader atm but their too old???????????? her private plates going on it anyway ?????

guess i'll just have to pluck up the courage to laugh at her lack of torques

Integra Type R. I find the Civic lacking compared to the other Type R's in the range.

but the teg isnt as pretty :)

i'm resigned to the fact i'm not going to win this one, But i guess that theres worse things that her in doors could want to park on the drive ;)

just means i can fit some Silly bugger JDM goodies to it (CAI, exhaust etc) and enjoy a small change from the smell of derv

People complain a lot about the CTR's saying that they are pretty pathetic low down. Everyone knows you needs to rev the balls of it to get out its full potential but are they really that bad?

They're much like any other 2.0 N/A low down - they just get better up top! The problem is that most people compare them to their similar rivals - many of which are 2.0 turbo - so have a bit more low-down grunt comparatively.

Reliability will be great if looked after - it is a Honda, afterall! ;) Fuel consumption will be ~25-30MPG (my 2.2 Prelude averages about 29).

Nope they still shift low down. Just shift even faster high up.

just waiting to lol at wifey driving it like a diesel then wondering what all the fuss was about :)

is there anyway to limit a ctr to 5 1/2K RPM :)

Has she actually driven a Type R yet?

no

smoked about in my old EF 16-16 for a while after passing her test then went to a punto then dervs ever since(a couple of octavias and the A4

so the quickest thing she has driven was a rattly old 130 bhp non vtec civic

Think she might be in for a shock :)

although never driven one myself i'm assuming it will be a bigger move grown up version of my old CRX but without bits falling off
