He probably does have more money than me, infact after looking at his occupation I know he does.

I could spend 15-18k on a car better than him, though:p

FYI - the glovebox isn't refrigerated as such, it just has a hole letting the aircon in! I like having aircon, hence why I went for the GT model.

I've had plenty of cars in my driving years, just now was the right time for me to own a FN2 CTR, I'm no stranger to jap cars either, out of 8 cars I've owned 5 have been Jap (including a partially race prepped 1991 MR2 Turbo with 20k on the clock), and I know I like the FN2 as much as any of them :)

When I was looking, alternatives were Golf GTI & Focus ST3 (and for about 2 seconds the Astra VXR until I was in a friends one!). ST3 I just didn't really like, couldn't put my finger on why, and for similar performance to the FN2 the fuel efficiency was reasonably poor.

I really like the GTI - it's much more conventional looking than the FN2 which is appealing (the FN2 may well date quickly), performance is similar again, although it felt quicker in pure acceleration terms due to the turbo. However I feel it is easier to drive the FN2 quickly. It really came down to price in the end; GTI 30 was considerably more expensive than the FN2.

Haven't driven the EP3, although I've been a passenger in several - I find them quite similar beasts to be honest, which isn't surprising as they are very similar, with the exception of the rear suspension. If I was looking in the sub £10k price bracket I may well have gone for an EP3.

I drove the ST and did enjoy it but the VTEC appeals to me, i am test driving one on Monday more for the fun of it than actually purchasing. I just feel for whats essentially a very similar car, the EP3 should make more sense to purchase.It will pocket me a lot of extra cash but something keeps drawing me back to the FN2. I really enjoyed sitting inside it when i didn't so much with the EP3.

People keep mentioned the suspension of the FN2 though and how harsh it is but i will reserve judgement for Monday. I owned a Cooper S with sports suspenion+ and that was very firm so if similar it wouldn't bother me too much.

I don't find the suspension too harsh, but I think it really depends on what you're used to driving. If you've been used to something softer like a luxobarge or repmobile (sorry for the cliches!) it may well feel very hard, but from something similar it feels fine. I think the looks are very marmite though; I love it, missus loves it, but I'm sure a lot of people don't. At the end of the day it comes down to whether you like it, and if you can justify spending £XX more on the FN2 than the EP3 :)
 
It "should" be a 210 then, not a 225.

Does the steering wheel have the "center" mark at the top (1cm wide line, in red)?
 
i'll check when SWMBO brings it back from work,

but insurance picked it upu as a 225 when i tried to insure as a 210 ( was well chuffed )
 
will have a butchers when SWMBO comes in from work(but cant say i noticed)

Well i had a test drive in the CTR FN2 earlier and i must say i was impressed. I was dubious as i have never driven a VTEC before and i know certain people do not rate this model very highly but after reading various reviews all being quite positive i went for a test drive in one.

I thought before i drove it that a VTEC engine would suite me and after driving it i think it does even more! The dealer was great and really let me go for it where possible and it had me grinning more so than the test drive i had on the Focus ST. I didn't really get the chance to test the handling too much as it was fairly busy on the roads but the suspension that people have mentioned was fine to me. It wasn't too firm especially compared to my Cooper S i had and i could quite happily travel in it without being irritated by the ride.

As i said i haven't driven a VTEC engine before and the lack of torque was noticeable, having to drop it a gear to really get anywhere on the dual carriageway once cruising but for me it wasn't a problem.

I know the looks are marmite but i for one like them. The interior is a nice place to be inside, everything is where you want it and the seats were great. Enough room in the back for family/friends too.

Was surprised i would like it as much as i did. Not sure what to test drive next though :)

If you liked the FN2 try either of the integras, they're proper vtec type-r cars :)
 
try a LCR we back to backed on a CTR and a LCR and the spanish golf wins hands down,


CTR's just a 4 wheeled moped :)

(i jest it was a close run thing for us choosing)

Wow, for me the CTR was higher than the DC2 :p im 23 with no NCB and my insurance was 800 quid through bell. DC5 is another story though, that was 1300 so have to wait a few years till its feasible.

Ah the DC2 came back £500 more and the DC5 £800 more and the CTR came in at £900 :/ I'm doing that quote with Bell at 22 years old with 0 NCB and 0 points or claims

Foxtrot - I may test drive the leon at some point if i was to look at a lower budget, i.e. like the LCR you just got and the CTR EP3. My cousins other half has one though so i may ask him for a spin.
