Needing to get rid of my WRX as it's too thirsty for motorway driving which is the majority of what I do. I still want something smaller and fun so was thinking about a CTR, does that 6th gear help keep the mpg down on the motorway?

One of the lads at work just picked up a new shape one. With about 10k on the clock he's getting high twenties on a run.

I say buy a Diesel :D If I get under 55mpg on a motorway run I'm doing something wrong.

If you do motorway driving, 300+ miles to a tank (50L to dry, 40L to red light) is easily doable. With a bit of VTEC fun in the middle of the commute, drop that down to 270.

I travel 3 miles in a 30, then 5 miles in a 60 then 1 mile in a 30 on the way to work then vice versa home. I get about 200 miles to the red light if I give it some, 240 with varied driving. It will probably do 270+ if I didn't VTEC at all during that tank of fuel.

The problem you'll find is that it's pretty hard to stay out of VTEC, you will probably get a bit bored but 30+ mpg is quite possible if you can cope with it.

Thought about a 172 but any chance? Might not be the best car on the motorway, but apparently they're good on fuel, taking into considering it's performance figures.

Different car I know but similar power, Accord 2.4 type-S, I get around 280 from the tank with some stop/start and then a blast down some A roads, get around 320 when blasting down the motorway.

Only because they are very very small. Fantastic for lots of usages, but not really the ideal car for mainly motorway mileage.

i have never driven one, but some people say they have a slightly awkward driving position, which may be uncomfortable

Cant say i have ever noticed this with any of the clio's i have had. None have been sporty ones, but i don't see that they would be any different.

I keep a track of my mpg on my CTR. Over the last 93 tanks of petrol I've averaged 31mpg. It's been down to 26mpg for city driving and up to 37mpg on a long (slow) run.

For 3rd lane motorway driving you will see 34mpg.

Might just be me but that really aint that great mpg is it for a car that does 0-60 in 7.7 when ragging it?

<20mpg around town and 24mpg or so on a run?

or am i working it out wrong? :p

Be a real shame if thats accurate as its one i already had my eye on one day perhaps.

Thats not 'too' bad really!

What motorway speeds do you consider a slow run btw? :D
