Hi

hope that someone can help me with this annoying problem; built new system yesterday (rig in sig) and have had BSOD CTSFM2K.SYS with 'Machine Check Exception' labelled above it.

This was occurring almost every 10 minutes. After uninstalling different drivers and googling it looks like the cause is my Audigy 2 which I have uninstalled and am now using on-board sound. I know the Audigy is fine becouse it was formerly in my old system and worked flawlessly.

If anyone else has had the same experience or knows a cure i'd really appreciate some help as would prefer to go back to my Audigy 2.

Many thanks.

i am getting BSOD on a machine i am currently using, also a MCE error, and i too think it is related to the sound, however i have the reverse problem. i am using onboard sound and getting it, so i have ordered a new seperate soundcard and i am hoping that will solve the problem.

The Machine Check Exceptions are usually quite bad. It either means the hardware is broken or that the drivers are corrupt. Redownload the latest and try again, if not, try the ones before the latest (as the latest are actually beta). If that still doesn't work, it may be the hardware.

Did some googling and seems a few people have had same problem. All seem to point to the fact that it is a sound font file which conflicts with Windows own.

Tried installing without sound fonts but same BSOD after a little while.

Don't know if related but I later found after a virus scan 3 Trojans - 2 I have managed to delete; may want to check.

main problem that i have is that the crashes i get are seemingly random, i cant seem to pin it down to any one thing setting them off, have you noticed the same, or always when doing set things?

It was completely random; longest time I had without a BSOD was just under an hour. Have removed Audigy2 and things are now fine. I have posted my soundcard to a friend who is gonna test it in his system. I don't believe the card is borked but more like the drivers are naff although I have run the card in a P4 system until built this system for almost a year without any problems.

I believe its a conflict between a sound font file in XP and a file in the drivers.

If anyone has any experiece please reply - I myself will keep posted on any progress I may have.

Google throws up that it could be anything from Hard drives to cpu's. :(

Ive had my pc 3 months and its been fine until this week. I have onboard sound and I havent changed anything driver wise and its not a soundblaster.

I have had problems with my Audigy 2 soundcard since I reformatted my hard drive and re-installed XP.

Here's a hint: if you reformat and re-install, do it without your sound card. When Windows is up and running, install the card then the latest drivers.

Currently, I am in an email exchange with Creative support. But so far no joy.
