Culinary question of biblical importance!

Butter on both slices of bread, 4 slices of bacon regardless of cut overlapped (never crossed) evenly with a 1cm gap on 1 edge to hold the bread together to stop egg dripping out. Fried egg, runny. Tomato sauce. Grated cheese.

That's not a bacon sandwich. The minute you start adding eggs, cheese, sausage etc etc it no longer becomes a bacon sandwich. The OP makes no mention of bacon sandwich variants.

Keep it simple, either 1/packet it however many slices your pan fits.

Then sauce depends on mood.
Something said for toasted sour dough, butter and Bacon. No sauce.

edit -
as for type of bacon
maple cured smoked, thick cut streaky bacon, cooked crispy.

I prefer to use a cob / roll / bap / those little mini baguettes / burger holder made of bread for bacon sarnies. 2 slices of smoked bacon, with red and brown sauce.

Personally I'd only use (thick/doorstop) slices of bread if there was bacon - sausage - egg etc so it soaks up all the loveliness.

Theres some scrumptious options here, I'll see if theres a trend (other than sticking a whole pig between two slices of bread.
keep 'em coming boys:)

As far as I'm concerned, "ALL" options are valid, provided theres at least some bacon in the sarnie.

thick cut or thin cut? smoked or unsmoked? type of bread, butter/spread or no spread? so many variables!

For me, three thick cut, smoked bacon, on doorstop toasted white bread, with real butter and ketchup!

This guy, he understands.

For me it has to be an absurd number of good quality smoked streaky bacon in nice soft crusty white bread with lashings of butter and then ketchup.

Drycured, streaky, unsmoked, crispy x4
Butter
Bread

That is all, condiments are for people using tasteless bacon :p

Whole pack of 12 streaky bacon rashers dumped in an air fryer for 8 mins in one go, then between 4 slices of bread with butter, then chopped in half with a bread knife. No sauce.

SERIOUSLY???!!!!

If you actually have to ask this question, or feel the need to respond with your own recipe and affirm yourself, then you likely don't deserve bacon sandwiches in the first place!!

^ This 100%.
If you want to argue, then you can pay for what you *think* is a bacon sandwich down my local cafe... Mine call it the Belly Buster and I'll have two, please!! :D

That's a bacon roll, bap or sub, not a sandwich...

It is if you've cut the roll, bap or sub in half giving you 2 pieces of bread and we're going with the oed definition of sandwich.

Bread based bacon meals...serious business.

Edit: On second thoughts this very much depends on if you class your bap, roll or sub as being bread or if bread only applies when it comes in loaf form. Mind. Blown.
