Current Best Online FPS

Always found Overwatch to be trying to hard too be something it isn't.

It isn't a good competitive/arena FPS. It's only still alive as an e-sport because Blizzard is forcing it financially. Hardly anyone actually follows it.

They should have taken it in a different direction entirely.

Played BF1 to death on PS4. Bought a PC and played PUBG as liked the idea of BR format. Spent about 500hrs on it and enjoyed it immensely and it paid for itself with crate sales. but fired up BF1 on the PC at the weekend and it’s smooth as silk compared to PUBG and it’s nice running around fragging without having to worry about dying.

PUBG for the Battle Royale genre.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 for FPS, old game, but still an active community.

BF1, I bought it on sale at weekend for £4, excellent game and one of the best looking games I’ve ever played

BF5 is out soon and there’s an open beta next month

Arma3 for a slow tactical FPS, plenty of mods too

Pavlov VR Counter Strike/CoD VRFPS (my go to FPS, there’s 100’s of the community made maps free from steam workshop)

Onward VR for a slow tactical VRFPS

For me nothing beats the sheer adrenaline of playing an FPS game in VR, in a flat game you move out of cover and press R to reload, in VR you physically duck into cover, and then you eject the magazine, reach to your hip grab a fresh magazine and insert it into your weapon and then move out of cover and get back into action, nothing comes close to VR

"Best" is subjective. Popular examples have been given already in this thread, maybe worth viewing some videos/streams of them to gauge your interest.

No stealth, but you could try Ironsight for a COD-like affair. Fast paced, good hit reg and netcode, well supported with patches and content, plenty of players... and best of all it's 100% free while being really very good. You can of course spend money but only for cosmetics or loot boxes with guns and more cosmetics. You don't need to though, they are very generous with credits and chips so you can build out your inventory quite quickly.

Have a look at Insurgency on steam, one of my favourite shooters.
Takes a little time to get used to it but proved to be very fun for me. New one coming out also at some point.
It's more realistic hence harder than your average shooter
On some servers (which i prefer) you don't even know if you killed your enemy untill you either find their body or you get killed and check your kill number.

Is BC2 old? I remember playing an older BF BC game online I'm sure it was that, really fun, stopped playing it in like 2011.
