Current state of OLEDS vs Plasma

The 8k model is LCD, not OLED. Next generation yo! I doubt you'll ever get a 32" TV with 8k resolution however. For a 100"+ TV/PJ it would make sense (note the size of the TV announced, and the other 8k screen accounted last year).

Doesn't seem unreasonable to have three resolutions on sale at one time.

1080p for screens <32"
4k/UHD for screens 32-80"
8k for screens >80"

Choose your size and get the resolution best designed for that size.

it wasnt so much about the TV size, my comment was more about content.

its going to take ages for 4k to catch on let alone 8k

Im thinking about sending back my ef950 LG oled that i got a few weeks ago. Im still within the time frame and with these new announced ones fully supporting the 4k HDR standard Its probably a better idea to send it back and wait for the new models with them rumoured to be released in March.

The 950 is amazing but i only buy new tv's like once every 8 or so years so i want it to be as future proof as possable and since the 950 was made before the UHD HDR specification was announced it was most likely not going to meet it so waiting all of 3 months seems like a better idea.

4k is already catching on, just not on terrestrial or subscription TV.

It makes zero sense to not buy a 4k TV at this point if you don't plan on upgrading for a while.

Next TV I buy will probably be around for a decade. If it's not 4k then I'll be regretting it in 2-3 years. The 8k screens are not for general consumption, they are show pieces to start it off. You're probably looking at 5-10 years before they remotely become mainstream. Just in time for another upgrade. :p
