Currently Have a 5930k , Looking to Upgrade.

For your workload, I would put a second PC together. I use two PC's as its's better for my work and I spread the work over both. Threadripper looks to be the best option as it has more PCI-E/cores/RAM + MM will have lots of R7's for sale:)
but the one pc i run does it all, there isnt a "NEED" to upgrade, more of a despire to have a little more headroom , so if the 1800 is faster than the 5930k, then there would be even less of a need to build a second.

Wait for Threadripper. Ryzen has lived up to the hype (better and cheaper than Intel) particularly if you are not just gaming. Also, the gaming situation is improving dramatically with patches in certain games (Ashes of the Singularity, Rise of the Tomb Raider with 50% increase in performance, Dota 2 and Total War). Prey also performs better on Ryzen than Intel equivalents.

Thanks for this info, I was considering Skylake-X for a gaming upgrade but I think I'll wait to see what Threadripper offers first :)
