Curtains open or closed when away?

My dad reckons you should leave them open because having them closed for a week implies the house is unoccuppied - he also leaves a light on towards the back of his house.

In my house we have the curtains closed most of the time anyway even when we are home :o so it won't look suspicious if they are closed when we are away
-Office has a black out blind permanently up
-Spare room has the blinds down, we rarely go in there
-Master bedroom usually has them closed because we don't want people looking in at us and we are too lazy to close the door to the ensuite
-Lounge I prefer having them closed because we are somewhat overlooked
-Dining room we don't use much and can't be bothered to go and open them
-Kitchen doesn't have any

Exceptions tend to be if we have visitors or have recently had a good clean and tidy up, not so embarrassing to have people looking in then!

My curtains are closed the majority of the time anyway... I never open my bedroom curtains ever and the living room ones are only open when it's not sunny as I can't see the TV otherwise even through the blinds (hence why we have both).

I'd leave my bedroom ones closed as that's normal and I'd leave the living room ones open but with the blinds shut.

We leave them open but tbh good neighbours on either side is probably far more helpful. On one side we have an older couple who are always at home and on the other we have a stay at home mum. We live in a nice area but it's reassuring when we're away for 2 or 3 weeks.

Similar here. Ours are rarely open, both front and rear. Mainly just because I'm a hate-filled ass and don't want to stare at other disastrous excuses for people as they walk up and down the road.

Bedroom curtains stay closed pretty much permanently as they're behind the bed and neither me nor the wife can often be bothered opening/closing them. Much easier just to stagger into the room and drop into bed. :D

So, it's very hard for anyone round here to know if we're in or not. Heard from a friend of ours that a kid down the street once asked his parents if we were vampires. :D

Either way, your local pizza/kebab company will leave a 'This person is away and doesn't read the pizza menu' leaflet hanging out of your letter box.

no links with swearing in them please!
