custom build or Cataclysm Hogger

To the Deskstar (a.k.a deathstar lol) or the Seagate?

I've heard a lot of complaints about the Deskstar (hence the a.k.a) and here's a review which gives it 2/5:(

There's another review which gives a far more favourable impression of the Hitachi.

I'd post a link but it's got competitor adverts.

The Seagate looks good though and it's still cheaper than the 1TB WD Caviar Black.

ok, i clicked that trust thing; what am i supposed to do with it hah; give positive comment?

Also im still looking into the two HD's myself as well as the cases.. the cases seems to be no better than eachother really whats still in stock i was looking into the silverstone rv-03 but thats also out of stock.

Regarding the PSU.

A system with 2 Crossfired 6990's in unlocked mode uses around 900W.

If you're seriously thinking of this as an option then the OCZ 1000W should do the job but perhaps consider the 1250W for extra headroom:

OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold Certified' Modular Power Supply £169.99

If you're sticking to a single 6990, or don't plan on using the unlocked mode with 2 cards (it voids the warranty), then 1000W will be fine.

are you going for the i3 build?

I would deffinatly not go with the i3 build if you want the build for gaming.

my reasons are becuase, the i3 only has 2 actual cores and 2 hyperthreaded cores. therfore, games that come out in 2011/2012 will take more advantage of 4 cores.

however, I would consider spreading the cost a little more and getting an i5, or simply getting an x4 AMD.

Try reading the thread.

The OP's build is in post #35.
