I am a reader of Custom PC mag as I'm sure a lot of you guys are and I am wondering why OCuK have never entered their yearly Dream PC competition.

Surely you guys could come up with an awesome PC that is worthy of said competition? With one of OCuK's main rivals winning for the last 3 years running I cant help wondering why OKuK hasnt entered before. Surely just the extra pubicity from it would boost OCuK's customer base?

Not sure if this subject has been brought up before or not so if it has just ignore this post.

:D

May annoy the locals but i agree entirely. I know a fair few people who have bought systems on the back of good ratings from custom pc/ pc format mags, but not from ocuk as they dont seem to feature. Silly really as i read these mags and sometimes think yeah thats nice but ocuk have a better one £ for £

Other competitors seem to get a lot more expsoure than ocuk and, well, i think, this is a missed opportunity.

Does seem a good opportunity really.

Would surely make back the money put into the hardware on sales? And with a little ingenuity Im sure you guys could take the crown.

Tbh OCUK dont have the ability to beat teh Jellyfish ;) (Not a disguised cahllenge to OCUK!)

How I would love to have one...but I'd need a small power station to run it.

I think OCUK have the op to fill the gap between high end and extreme end.

Maybe Ocuk are doing really well without doing such things for free advertisment.
Are the companies who are in the the mag with their fancy rigs getting the latest stock of 5800 \ 5900 ATI cards.

This isn't the case Overclockers have one of the highest stock allocations on these cards,

Regarding entering custom PC Overclockers do sent systems out to reviews,
The key points we are looking at is a load of different places that reveiw our systems Look at our Goliath system With OC3D.

to win the dreamPC competition, you need to spend a lot of money with the magazine.

we are building our reputation based on reliable, performance systems that are priced well

these 'Dream PCs' take months to make and are massivley overpriced

especially when one of OcUKs £1500 systems comfortably performs within 10% of most of them

That may be true, but your new customers (i.e. younger lads getting into performance hardware) are going to read the mag and never hear about how good you are as you didn't spark their creative imagination by modding a powerful machine to a high standard. You could just do one that's more simple but just as powerful. Do they include the prices of the dream machines? I think you could be onto a winner there, your systems are generally very good value for money.

the BEAST one was a bit like yours!! and was the only one i would have bought.

Lets face it there are a few PCs built by OCUK members that could compete with them, for half the cost.....the SCAN one cost £10000 lol

i could build a dream machine for £2000 (not including labour!!)

OCUK don't enter because they don't do modded PCs. All the PCs entered in the Dream PC are modded and to win, as rjkoneill says, you have to spend a lot of time, money and effort on your entry. OCUK's focus is always on the fastest PCs for the best prices.....which is fine, but I'd still like to see them offer some modding options like powercoating etc.

Why don't you ever give them your normal systems for review then?

the circulation on those type of mags I imagine is pretty low (20,000 a month?).

Anyway I imagine most get info from web, by the time it's printed things have changed

by the time it's printed things have changed

That's why i've given up on the magazine now, I already know more about the articles before they've printed them because I've read about the hardware online. That and the fact that their new collaboration with bit-tech means the reviews are just plain wrong every time.

We just have, we have only started pushing our products out for review in the last 6 months due to us now offering the complete product = price = performance = support package to a level we are proud of.

Have built ourselves up to 1000+ units per month every month without a single review, we are now putting a bit of focus on the system builds with a view to seriously take on the very big boys.
